The wind power renewable energy initative made front page today in the Grand Forks herald!
It shows the Pros/Cons of of each side and a counterpoint on each statment, but the most basic point is is that "major businesses may suffer" and "Grand Forks enjoys among the nation's Lowest elctricity rates which would attract businesses". This just INFURIATES me, in my opinion its just saying that "let our coal and uranium and oil deposits deteriate and the Earth suffer while we make some quick cash at its expense", I mean sooner or later WE ARE going to loss our natural resources and then whats next? Did anyone also think of useing both natural fuel and renewable sources and cut our use of unrenewable sources by 1/2 or even 3/4. Once agein big businesses decide on the worlds/our/animal fate, just so they can be richer....be better then next, Total Impearialism and no thought on the After Math of our decideions.
This also applies to Major restrictions on the growth/cultivation/use on Hemp in the U.S. ! Canada (recently) has been Depending on its source as with anythign else could greatly reduce the cutting down of forests for paper and Fiber and Insectisides/pesticides ect. (becouse it naturaly reliant) It also provides very nutritious essential oils and can also provide fuel much more then corn can. But becouse Hemp could out compete its compeatitors and the Nasty imgae Corpret America and our goverment slaped on it due to the fact it is related to marijuana, which would Ironicly reduce the chance of growing smokable marijuana due to VAST ammounts of male pollination.

All this just makes me want to scream, and do What ever possible to reverse all this, but becouse of our Government's age Discrimination, as with others, it limits my opinion and my activity in all this.

I have no closing statement or line to close this letter probley disappointing you becouse of no euphorical peak in the subject and final point climax, but oh well you'll have to find that yourself.

Sad to say but your partially correct to blame big business but we must also shake a finger at John Q Public for not wanting to step up and take measures into thier own hands like carpools, low watt lighting, get rid of the multi TV, DVD, stereos, computers ect in the homes and go back to 1 of each, stop giving kids cars and paying for their fuel and ect, stop buying exercise equipment and start mowing your own lawns and chopping your own wood ect, invest in a wind turbine for yard lights and small solar panels for temp lighting and even yard lights get the solar ones, buy solar motion lights and the list goes on and on.

We live in a world of wanting quick returns, shit handed to them and blame others for thier problems, step up people and change your home, then get further out there.

it is very true that big bussiness is only supplying a demand from the public. Sure big business has many evil things about it but our capitalistic consumer greed has just as much to blame.

Sure there is some age discrimination but you still can make start, trust me this problem is not going anywhere by the time you reach adulthood. start studying and learning more about renewable energy and learn more about community based social marketing because you will have to change allot of peoples minds on this subject and many people resist change.

any initiative is better than none.
I'm assuming this was a citizen initiative as compared to something the legislature referred? So it'd be a constitutional amendment?
(as was the case here in Colorado)
Lobby for it, if it isn't full of holes (and I'd love to read it, and teh blue book pros/cons that is being sent to voters.)
Here, Xcel, the major provider, was required to hit 10 percent of production from renewables. Mostly that has been wind, and get this, the company will hit that EIGHT years early.
About 4 percent will be solar.
Wind just has a better chance here, what with farmers popping a few towers on strategic points and still grazing cattle/ growing cops right up to them, as well as larger scale wind farms being built.
One more wind farm will allow Xcel to hit that 10 percent.

I'm wondering, is it rural electrical co-ops that are against this? (that was the case here)
As for attracting business, green power attracts green businesses ahead of the curve.
