Now I know all you pro animal testing people don't agree, but maybe you don't actually know exactly what goes on behind the walls of those well sealed labs nobody ever gets to check out. So maybe when you watch the little vid here you might think differently. It's all insane psycho bullshit. Oh and... it is a video from the most hated organization around. Could all you haters out there please refrain from any jackass remarks you may have against these guys or the people that support their cause please and make a diligent and concerted effort to take a moment to actually feel something for someone other than yourselves? Or at least be able to acknowledge the fucked up reality that is these poor animal's lives? That'd be great. www.peta2.com/feat/testing123/
OK...well....I think that you should now declare that you will NEVER AGAIN.. 1. Take an aspirin 2. use insulin should you need it. 3. take cold medication 4. take pain medication 5. have surgery 6. have chemo should you get cancer 7. get a rabies shot if you are ever bitten by some animal you try to "liberate" 8. take any sort of hormonal birth-control Also make sure that you never taken to a hospital or clinic even if it means you will die. If you use any of the following listed above but still bitch about medical animal testing, that makes you biggest, fucking, useless, hypocrite on Earth and you lose at life. Good luck.
Shutterfly, have you ever been inside an animal testing facility? There are types of testing that can only be done on a sick animal. We're not talking shampoo testing here, but medical devices. You can't test a pacemaker on an animal with a healthy heart. And you can't test a drug pump on a healthy animal either. While I don't agree with testing of some products, other types are vital, necessary, and give an animal a chance at life they would not have had without those awful tests. love, mom
Mama... No I've never been inside a research lab, they keep them well hidden from the public eye. I've seen tons of video footage though not taken just from animal rights activists perspectives but also taken from the scientists perspectives themselves. I have a few scientist friends that have told me stories of their experiences within these labs. Many of them, although not all, have become ethical vegetarians through it all because of what they've witnessed. The point here is to move away from these primitive methods in favor of more practical, effective modern ones. With technology we have these days there is no reason at all to test on animals. Why do we really do it? $$$. There's big business in animal testing. Not all animal testing has to be torturous agony. If you're testing a medicine on a dog FOR a dog that makes a lot more sense than testing something meant for humans on a dog. It makes far more sense to experiment with people. Not only would the test be more regulated they would not have the element of unnecessary suffering that occurs now with careless, useless animal tests that are conducted now. Of course when one suggests that it suddenly becomes demonized and criticized as cruel and unusual punishment which verifies the very fact that these experiments are a sadistic practice in the name of science. People are in incredible denial about the facts regarding animal testing. People seem to believe that humans are above all other animal species and that it doesn't matter that they have the ability to suffer just like we do. Well I do think it matters. I think it matters a whole bunch. If it were me strapped down being burned alive to test some suncreen's effectiveness you're damn well right it would matter a whole lot. If it were me that had my eyelids sewn shut with twine and nerve-wracking noises being blasted into my ears while being held in solitary confinement simply to study the effects of blindness on children it absolutely would matter. I firmly believe that in this day and age animal testing for the well being of humans is unnecessary, unethical and unsound medicine. Most of it has nothing to do with our well being and more to do with financial gain. Do I think we should discard what we have learned over all these years from animal testing? No... that would be stupid and the whole thing would all have been in vain, especially the suffering. I do think we should evolve away from it towards a better more efficient way. Hmmmm... c.o. you are one of the jackass idiots I was referring to when I said what I said about the haters. But you just can't help yourself can you. You find it incredibly necessary, perhaps to inflate your already swollen ego, to belittle and judge people by calling them names and slinging insults at them when you disagree with what they have to say. Your life must be so pathetically useless and miserable that you have to come onto these forums to bring people down to your sorry state of being. Whenever anyone gets pissy with you- Oh my god how dare they!!- you call them out for it as though that's not anything you ever do. Oh no... almighty otter can do no wrong and her opinions are law. Well frankly I'm sick to death of you self imposed superiority complex! You need to seriously get the fuck over you stupid self because you really are not even remotely all that. Aaahhhhh doesn't it feel good to have something more to attempt to insult me with. You must be laughing wickedly over your cauldron of hate thinking up more stupid things to say that will make you look even more 'superior' to yourself. The fact of the matter is you don't get it. You don't get that there's more life here than just YOUR life. What's done is done. We've come a long way medically speaking and to not use what we already have and know is just stupid. For you to tell me not to go into a hospital if I need to, or not take an aspirin is asinine. What's done is done. The point is to evolve. You may need a dictionary to help you out with that one.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! What are you? 15 years old? WAAAHH11!1!!OMG OTT3R U R TEH SUX!1!1 U SHULD DYE 0R GET A LYF!1!1!!ELEVENTYONEHUNDRED!11!!! I am superior to you...in every way. Get over it.
I do agree with you about things like sunscreen testing. And I refuse to buy products that I feel don't require tests... that have been tested on animals. But some medical testing must be done. You can't release a new medical device or even a new drug, without testing it on a living being first. Could those tests be done on humans? Sure, but where are you going to find "human guinea pigs?" Do YOU want to be the first human to test out, say, a new type of pacemaker if one of the slim but very real possibilities is that it could cause your internal organs to burst? People just don't want to run that kind of risk on their own kind. I'm not saying it's right, and sure... the people that need this kind of device ARE likely to die anyway - but people are "only human." We live in a state of "better you than me," and in this case "you" is an animal instead of a person. My dad has worked in a couple companies that create medical devices. And I was allowed into an animal testing facility while in high-school. See, I was convinced that it was wrong too & had been planning on showing everyone why. All I saw was row after row of immaculate (though admittedly quite small) cages with animals being treated for all sorts of ailments. These animals were rescued from Humane Societies around the state... and only the sick & about to be put-down animals were taken. I saw the animals. They weren't afraid of humans, and they looked anything but abused. I do know that this company specifically has been under the scrutiny of PETA for decades and that they had unscheduled visits by the SPCA twice a year which probably helped to keep them on their toes, but still... you can't fake things like fear. I came away from the experience with a new frame of mind. These people were taking an animal doomed to die because of a health problem, and giving them a chance at life. Sure, some died. I'm sure MANY died. But some lived. And NONE of them would have, had this company not stepped in, in the name of medical science. The way the FDA is set up right now, tests must be run on animals before human testing can begin. Not many people have taken on the FDA & won. I'm not saying that changes shouldn't be made... just that this is one heck of a campaign. love, mom
however says testing it on prisoners and really believes this ( I mean not joking about it) are idiots. think of how many people are wrongly convited for crimes they did not do, lets not put peoples through testing until we improve on our court systems. and even then people are animals to so that theory is really hypocritical. I am not sure if you are joking but I have seen people say this more then once around here. and I do not care how many brainwashing PETA videos you watch, the no animal testing attitude would change if you or someone you loves gets sick and needs a cure for something which still needs to be tested. and you need to remeber that peta is only going to show you the really bad testing labs and not the ones where the animals are treated better then most pets are treated, and yes that does happen.
Yes Mama you are right... we certainly don't want to run risks on their own kind. Which is why I think if we won't do it to ourselves why test it on animals. Why not test an untested pacemaker on a human that's about to die without one? That makes more sense and I think a dying human would be more receptive to it than we think they would. It has so much to do with humans being eliteists over other species (and each other for that matter). I'm actually glad to hear that you've been inside some places that are kind to their animals. It's reassuring to know that maybe there are some decent scientists out there that actually are concerned about the welfare of the animals they test on. I still think that more harm than good comes from it and I, like you, absolutely do not purchase anything that was tested on an animal nor do I ever plan on it.
In many cases, testing on "already sick" humans isn't at all possible, or ethical. Much of the information we get about drugs used during pregnancy and lactation simply cannot be tested on patients, as you are dealing with TWO patients, one of whom cannot give consent, and in many cases, it is not always people who are "dying" that need medications. Medications are rarely, if ever, tested on children, dying or just sick. They can't give consent, and the side effects may be bad. But, we need to treat many illnesses and conditions in children. This is a dilema. Not all results taken from animal studies can be used for humans, either, so it isn't a perfect idea. But, one can't just give untested drugs, treatments or tests to children or even adults. And most people who have to use drugs are PREVENTING death or illness, so testing on the "dying" just isn't efficent. I have severe pain disorder. Will it kill me? I don't know. Stress can kill one, but it takes a long time. But, I may WANT to die, as NOTHING but strong meds helps my pain. If that means a dog or a bunny gets tested so I don't suffer, so I can take care or my kids, so I can get out of bed more than once a week, then so be it. I also have two children with neurological problems. Neither of these will KILL my children, but the drugs, and the testing they require had to be tested before being given to my children. Medicaiton isn't just for "the dying." Often, it is there so some of us can live a life WORTH living. I don't beleive in harming animals needlessly, and I don't use lots of cosmetics, I use no hair dye ect. But, many people DO use hair dye, cosmetics, face oil, ect. Should we say it is OK for them to maybe find out, after years of using a product that it is dangerous? I am just asking. I am no angry, I don't expect any aggravation for my response, but in the long run, medicine needs testing. I don't LIKE it, but unless you have lived a life FILLED with illness and suffering, you just can't understand. To be honest, a lot of dogs live less painful lives than many people do.
I just wanted to add, that I wish we had a better alternative. But, medications are neccesary for many. (Those who don't think so, are those who have never been really, truely, sick or dying, or have ficticious illnesses, which usually respond to just about anything.)
And you don't get sarcasm at all. That's not surprising. Why don't you go back to preaching on the forums of PeTA2.com since obviously you are just one of those asshats that can't handle opposition to your mindless, nonsensical, propaganda. Wait....why am I bothering with such a lurker anyways? Maggie, please smack me. The other veterans around here know that the only animal testing I support is medical as I have stated such many many times over the years. I don't need to justify my beliefs to some insipid fly-by-nighter. Go post petitions with Vinceneilsgirl or something.
*SMACK* Your wish is my command, if it requires a smakin'. LOL! Chill Otther, girl. She has a right to her opinion. *SMACK" (That one was just gratuitous. )
Hey! Watch the nose, lady. I gots my beauty pageant tomorrow. It's the Miss Cauldron of Hate finals. I'm in the top 10.
Naw... Otter's failed attempts at insulting me have become nothing more than childish idiot blathering. I've grown bored with it. She actually talks about me not being able to handle opposing viewpoints... honestly Otter you're the queen of not being able to hang. Apparently you have trouble recognizing sarcasm as it slaps you in your face as well. I'll go ahead and let you put in whatever other useless two cents you will and while your busy with that I'll be off to engage with other more intellectually stimulating and interesting people.
What's that sound? A harpy moaning or the endless, droll, "put-downs" of someone who's only contribution to these forums is to whine and preach her misanthrope? NEXT! Anyways, cosmetic and military animal-testing=bad...and I wont pretend that medical testing didn't improve my life and that my family and friends..because it did. I dig my pet rat Ben but if I had to choose between his life and that of my kids'...he loses, without a second thought.
