What is absurd about it? The girl and her parents admit what she did was wrong. I find it amusing whenever somebody threatens the life of the President of the United States and the Secret Service questions them (their duty to investigate all threats), people here get worked up and outraged. What if somebody publicly threatened the life of your mother? Would you be upset if the authorities investigated to see if the threat was valid?

Agreed. It's against the law to threatens anybody's life, especially the president (no matter how much you him). Enough said.

People who threaten your life are not so dangerous as those who quietly threaten it. Its better to know who hates you is it not?

That is bullshit. Are the feds going to question every high school freshman who hates Bush now? They're wasting their time. And they wonder why we complain about government spending.

You can hate him all you want, write books about it, but you can't threaten to kill him. Not really a stretch IMO.

as i understand it the american president regularly threatens and invades other countries at a whim he is responsible for the killing of so many people, one letter with a threat written inside pales into insignificance, imagine if the only thing george bush did was write threatening letters to people he didn't like, the world would be a safer place.

No he does so after UN resolutions are ignored repeatably and sanctions are not working because they are being illegally gone around by the same countries that block war at the UN.

A media about the possible killing of a president such as how it may be done and its impact is still not comming out with picture of a person bloody with knives sticking out of them and saying your going to kill them.

Now if she had stated how there could be a story that a group of school kids while visiting could have overthrown the security force and with pencils assisinated the president Im sure it would have been in a different light as it was a story and not making a direct threat.

    and what of iraq?

no wmds, no nothin,if saddam was so bad why did america train their people and send people like donald rumsfeld over to iraq? it was obviously acceptable to america that saddam torturing and killing his own people was fine. even when the iraqis rang up the americans and asked if was ok to invade kuwait, the best thing the american government could come up with was "we have no opinion".

as for iraq, well the history of the world shows that america will continue losing men and will probably withdraw, when i don't know. when the crusaders launched an attack on the muslims it took the muslims a couple of centuries to fight back, but fight back they did, then they launched their own attack in revenge and western europe nearly lost it, in every sense of the word.

but who the hell reads history? certainly not george bush or his corrupt cohorts. i always wonder what the world would have been like if kennedy hadn't been killed by his own security services.

Yeah, so anyway.... The Secret Service has an obligation to invesitgate any threat on the President of the United States. It is as simple as that.

I'll tell you what's absurd. According to the article, this 14-year old girl is "passionate about ... cute movie stars". But she can't act on her passion, because the movie stars, who are almost all adults, would be arrested for statutory rape and sent to prison.

Now that's just stupid. She knows full well that she shouldn't be passionate about anything until she's at least 18 years old. She should probably be put in some kind of clinic for her condition. A clinic WITHOUT easy access to phallic-shaped objects or other stimulatory material appealing to the prurient interest, as so many clinics of today regrettably carry in spades.

Doesn't the secret service have a budget big enough to screen some of this stuff, so that innocent teenage rantings are discredited?

    C. Rice discredited the threats referred to her before 09/11. No one went to the homes of the terrorists held responsible for that and interviewed or questioned them. In fact less than a year later one of them was granted a renewal to his visa.

Bush's administration took it seriously enough that they only flew by leased aircraft after they received the threats.

    http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/100406J.shtml

But not seriously enough to protect the US populus.

In fact it was Atta the ugliest, most notorious of the group. Says a lot for our security doesn't it.

    http://web.morons.org/article.jsp?sectionid=1&id=1438

But let's jump on every teenager that wants to speak out.
