So I was thinking about wether or not God Exists. I am a theist. I am a theist for this reasons. The laws of nature don't just appear randomly with some expolsion and neither do the materials needed for that random exposion. However...I know matter can't be destoryed and so these materials are ever changing and the so called "laws" would be ever changing as well. But still, I have to wonder, it is very unlikely that a place like earth which seems to have the perfect condtions for life out of and infinate number of worlds would have come about by chance yet when you consider that matter can't be destoryed and therfore allways has existed, earth was bound to come out of the random process eventually. So any thoughts or ideas? Just wondering what theists and non-theists think.
Soz.. cant say it all again.... For a general position..check 1st post in Agnosticism by Meagain Occam
The "argument by design", which you are offering is well played out. Problem with the argument by design is the fact that no matter whether something looks like it was manufactured, it COULD conceivably have come about naturally. given a finite period of time which is so large that it goes beyond even what limited conception of the term "infinite" that we try to hold in our minds - then anything is possible. If you dont believe these things could come about by random chance conforming then ask yourself how all those beautiful patterns made by fractal software come about. If you are saying its by design you are saying complex forms cannot be created by simple forms emerging. IE there has to be a god that created complex forms, because they require a higher complex form to create them. Well if you look into fractal imagery you will see how a tree conforms to exact mathematical principles of uniformity and chaos http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:dzhiWEe2s8XiEM:http://www.strengthinperspective.com/mpart/mpgal5/webpix/firtree.jpgThese were formed from one simple triangle each. If you look into fractal mathematics you will learn a lot about why the argument by design fails. In simple terms all nature had to do was exist - there are only natural laws because amid any chaos some order has to exist - true randomness does not exist I did a search on google and came up with this list of people talking about it also take a look at this
Just because we are here in the universe now and have evolved the ability to even ask the question means nothing. There could have been an infinite number of universes before in which the 'laws' of physics did not allow for the evolution of a thoughtful being. In fact, for the first several billion years of eternity there would not have been any evolved species IN THIS UNIVERSE capable of asking the question and yet the universe got along just fine with out it. Don't look for meaning where the meaning has no value pertinant to the day to day of life. It is enough to be happy.
Sayign perfect condtions of life.... how many planets have we seen normally or pretty much closer ??? 10 ?? life doesnt have to be born on a planet like ours.. it can be different as there are colours... nobody knows... and laws.. we jsut call them laws... ts the way it all works.. and there are thousands more. we can not say muhc, we havent been out of our galaxy yet.....i hope we wil be.
there are countless other galxies out there, to say we're the only lifeforms in this universe is pretty egotistical. I mean come on were here, we evolved, be happy with it. Maybe were here for the universe to realize its own existence, who knows?
