Solve et Coagula It would be interesting to see you post in anybody else's thread, or even to follow up on replies to your own threads. While i agree with the sentiments expressed in a lot of the links you provide, links are not enough for genuine discussion or debate. Stop trolling. It's annoying. I smell bias, if a right winger were doing this they wouldn't get a "10 suspension", they would get maybe 1 warning and then if it continued a banning. The guidelines are very clear as to what is unacceptable on the forums and what the consequences are for breaking those guidelines. Don't mean to preach, but you're getting on my fucking nerves, guy... And another thing: I don't know what your first language is, but it's difficult to read an article when it's littered with these: Ó. And for christ's sake, stop winking at us!
Amen, I think you hit the nail on the head and I think that applies to several other folks too. Especially the folks who few agree with.... Peace, poor_old_dad
Shane the flip flop? In the post “Solve et coagula” I said - This is a debating forum not a bulletin board and so it is with regrets that I’m going to give some time out to Solve et coagula who had been warned about filling the forum with posts, many of which are nothing more than links. Ten days time out http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191909 ** To which Shane replied Seems stupid to me. If what he posts is not contributing to the flow of conversation, will it not just fade away? If people are responding to what he is posting and discussing it then it seems relevant and worthwhile, if it is just links and spam/trolling then people will ignore it. Seems to me that your recent "time outs" that you are handing to members is just a way for you to assert what little authority you have and don't really contribute to weeding out blatent spamming or trolling. If someone is trolling: "Dems Suck cause i say do hippy tree lover". Or spamming: "look at this site, look at this site, look at this site." I could understand, ban their ass if you want. But, instead you are banning members because they are not contributing enough in your opinion to the forums. And i was under the impression that these were message boards, not debate forums, no different than Random Thoughts, Parenting or personal forums, just with a different focus (politics). That's why i thought it was retarded when you gave rat a "time out" because he chose to stop responding to you. If they aren't blatently violating Forum Guidlines... I mean, i don't see any sticky threads or Politics forums specific guidlines that state: this is a Debating forum (unlike all the other forums), if you are not actively debating you will be temporarily suspended. And what's the deal with telling everyone else that he's been suspended? Public shame or something. You couldn't have PM'd about the fact that he can't post in politics forum for a while? You had to start a thread (titled under his handle) inform him that he can't post, as if he wouldn't realize that when he trys to post... ** Come on man, one moment you are criticising me for castigating Solve the next you are criticising me for not?
My problem was with the "suspension", i have no problems with banning. I'm also not the mod, so my calling him out and you chastising him are not comparable. One is suggestion by peer. One is coersion by authority. Also, i just like getting under your skin sometimes.
"i just like getting under your skin sometimes" yeh go on, you don't say -) it's still seems like a flip flop to me.
okay, maybe this part: I smell bias, if a right winger were doing this they wouldn't get a "10 suspension", they would get maybe 1 warning and then if it continued a banning. The guidelines are very clear as to what is unacceptable on the forums and what the consequences are for breaking those guidelines. wasn't needed. basically i do not like suspensions or banning and would like members to take more personal responsibility. I'm trying to figure out a way to incourage individuals to contribute to group dynamics without resorting to a hierarchical system of punishment/reward....
I actually agree. The thing is that it is very difficult to achieve. Also not all suspensions and bannings take place in a vacuum, we (the moderators) often discuss what we think is appropriate. I’ve argued for people to be saved from banning (or brought back) and I’ve argued for bannings that I’ve been talked out of. The thing is that because of the subject matter (politics can cause such passions) i give people a lot of lee way and things that might get someone banned in another forum i feel should allow here (but if it is pushed too far...)
I know I'm late to the table on this thread but I'm glad I'm the not the only one that was annoyed(and a bit creeped out) by his constant "winking". I never understood that. Is he being facetious?
