i feel soo sorry for my cat pisces, he has an absess on the base of his tail. i noticed it on sunday & i phoned the vet first thing monday to arrange an appointment & the earliest i could get him booked in for was this morning. i have been bathing his tail in saline solution for the time being but yesterday it poped & it smelt awful. he's been off his food for a few days too & all he keeps doing is licking his tail.

so i took him to the vets this morning thinking that they're going to lance it or cut it which actually makes me feel queesy just thinking about it. he got in his new wicca basket that dave bought him without any fuss but all he did all the way to the vets was meow. he is not a meowie cat, he hardly ever meows so this was not a happy time for me.

he shot out the basket once in the vets room & it took me a bit to get him back on the table. it took alot for mt to hold he too while the vet looked at him but once i got him still the vet cut a bit of fur off his tail & you can clearly see its a cat bite mark. thankfully because its already poped & pisces keeps licking it there is hardly any puss left in so it didnt need lancing. the vet gave him an antibiotic injection which he hated & he is to stay in the house for a few days.

do you think its best to keep him in the house at night now, what with the nights drawing in?

definatley keep him in untill he's all healed. Letting him go outdoors could easily result in another absess and many times flies will get into the wound and lay eggs. I don't know where you live but around here flies are still bad this time of year. My cat had an abcess recently and he had to stay indoors for a few weeks. He was miserable and making us all crazy because all he did was cry at the front door to be let out. Good luck with your kitty...hope he get well soon.

he's ok when he's indoors he just finds different entertainment & i pay extra special attention to him. i had to by this sanatiser stuff to wash his tail in to make sure it stays clean.

I have gone through this a couple times with my cat ( he likes to fight)

they where always on top of his head or on his shoulders.

i had to drain them 2 times a day, it was like popping a big zit.

after we drained it we always fed him his favorite food (fancy feast) so he was really good when we drained them, then he would run to the kitchen and wait for his feast.

this is why when I got my new cat i made her a indoor cat, but now she is getting fat.

That's funny what you say about giving your kitty a treat after dealing with his physical stuff he doesn't like Komokwa. I have to do the same thing with my two boys when I clip their nails. They used to hate it but now they know they're gonna gets treats afterward so they graciously deal with it and then run to the kitchen for their treat.

Aww, poor kitty. I am glad the abcess is going to be taken care of. :)

I had a cat named pisces. She ran away to join a cult of opossums in my back yard.

I've never had a cat that had an abcess but a couple horses in their hooves, and it was not fun for them or me. Hopefully your kitty is feeling better and gets that sucker drained:)

he's fine now thanks but he dosent understand why i am locking the catflap at night still. i have decided that from 8pm it gets locked, i would do it earlier what with us turning the clocks back an hour & it getting dark earlier but i dont get home from work untill 8pm. i hate this time of year for animals, bonfire night is comming up so lots of fire works & stupid kids about. in the past few years there have been lots of cases of children (& cruel adults) tieing fireworks to animas tails & trying to send them up in the air, but obviously it dosent work & it just burns them. it hardley ever kills em & if it does they are the lucky ones. i'd rather put up with pisces scratching at the back door than having him bit by other cats or worse tied to the end of a rocket.

even though he's okay now, I'm sorry to hear about that! My cat had an absess too, from a bite from the other cat we were living with for a while.

As a cat lover, and just loving your pet in general, it's traumatizing to see your pet in pain like that. The vet told me to put a warm wet rag under his tail, where the absess was, to help drain the crap out, and that was intense.... My cat just sat there screaming, trying to wriggle away. I kept assuring him I would make him feel better, but he doesn't get that lol

I'm glad to hear your cat is better!
