i have been really interested in my history class recently (we're talking about the new deal and ways FDR tried to mkae the great depression not be a depression anymore) and was wondering... do poeple still nowadays have a farm and invite people to stay and just help out around the farm and make money that way? and provide housing...? sounds interesting.
there are a lot of places that do it. I know a lot of organic farms like to get help that way, because so many of them are really small and can't afford help, and so they usually do some kind of program where you can stay free of charge, help them out, and they'll teach you all about farming and gardening for free, kind of like a work study program. I've just applied to one in california, but I've heard of at least two or three just around where I live (ontario). you might just want to do a little research on the net and find one around (or not) your area.
yeah...thats sounds pretty sweet but i dont tihnk id want to live there, i just thought it would be a good idea if farmers needed help to grow crops to get money, people should helo them out. i would if i was given the situation though
That looks really cool, but are there any in the US? -Mike Edit: I'm an idiot... they just call it USA and I didn't see it there.
Alright... I'm really gonna do this WWOOF thing with my girl friend. We can get the couple membership so it'll be cheaper. Does anyone know anything about the organic farms in No. Cal? That's the area we're planning on working at. We're hoping to finish off this semester and then head off sometime in the early new year. I guess we'll have to find one that's even taking people at that time of year. So yeah, any suggestions or anything? -Mike
