So, does anyone like his music? I love it. I mean, god, what a brilliant songwriter!! I'm listening to the album Pink Moon right now...
    Beautifull...

Yeah Nick Drake is cool alright, check out his album Five Leaves Left, I think it's better than Pink Moon, more instruments and depth to it. Pink Moon always feels very bare to me with just Nick on the guitar for most of it.

I really like Nick drake. He's just amazing. I think Bryter Layter is his best album.

Nick Drake is *amazing*. The three albums, Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, and Pink Moon are all really spectacular. I'd have to say that Pink Moon is my favorite, it's the most raw and so honest. "Falling fast, you stoop to touch and kiss the flowers that bend" Does it get better? He recorded that album in two nights, in the middle of the night... left the tape on the counter at the record company with hardly a word. Just a, "uh, I'm Nick Drake, here." Died soon after, overdose on depression meds. Beautiful music. I heard there was to be a documentary about him... I've got to check that out. I think it was going to be narrated by Brad Pitt or something. Anyway, one of my favorites. Anyone have a favorite Nick Drake song?

Just out of interest, how many people liked him five years ago, before it became cool to like Nick Drake?

He sure wasn't popular when he was alive.

It's cool to like Nick Drake? I knew he was gaining popularity, especially since the VW ad with Pink Moon, but I hadn't realized he had broken into mainstream... or submainstream even. I'm pretty sure he's been building an exponential following after his death, which is skyrocketing it seems lately. Anyway he was depressed most of his life apparently, due to the lack of followers to his music. He only performed a couple of times live, and I'm fairly certain that a recording of it does not exist. Listen to the song "Fruit Tree" and tell me you don't understand prophetic lyrics though... god.

"Fame is but a fruit tree, so very unsound. It can never flourish until it's staulk is in the ground"

He does seem to have reached tipping point recently, with people like Brad Pitt coming out as big fans.

I don't care who listens to the guy or how "cool" it is to dig Nick Drake. All I know is the guy could write great songs. I really like his raw acoustic stuff. The alternative tunings he used completely compliment his heartbreakingly sad voice. I love to hear some Nick Drake in the midst of the winter blues and bask in the sorrow.

I have Five Leaves Left, but I haven't been able to "get into it" yet. I don't know, I guess I should listen to it again. And to whoever said that it's cool to like Nick Drake... I don't even know anyone who even knows who he is. o_O
