I was thinking of growing mushrooms inside. I didnt know whether to put this here or in gardening. I just want to grow a couple batches in like a bin or something in my room. If you would be kind enough to post all of your knowlege about mushroom growing. Well that would be dandy wouldnt it. Peace
MMM Shroom growing is interesting...You have to care for em like your children. Well divide that by ten. A good first time is the PF TEK
What? Grapey, wait until you have your own child someday. HAHAHA It is NOTHING like that. Unless, mushrooms bite you in the shin, throw up on your face, and pull your hair when your trying to take a nap? LOL this was only yesterday, BTW
Yep, you knew that was coming My girl just called me, she had to pick him up from daycare because he has 102 deg. fever !!!!!!!!!
You mean she had to pick him up from daycare, because he has a compulsive pwning problem. Jack pwns babies left and right like it's some kind of sick joke.
Man, you have to know alot before you just throw some spores in an let them grow. You have to do it right as well. Find a good growing method at the shroomery.org. Also, it needs to be as sterile as possible and the jar is discarded once there is something that shouldn't be there in it... Be careful and read up on cultivation.
i'm bumping this for anyone who has some magical gems of wisdom they'd like to share in the context of growing mushrooms... like if anyone knows anything about temperature. it's cold as hell here. haha, irony. cold as hell.
ahh temperature... Have a fishtank heater in tupperware filled half with water, another one floating, with the jars in...But it works like shit, takin eternity to colonize
I'm just now fruiting the first flush from a kit which comprised if a grow box and a syringe of spores. green mold is a real problem - some appeared on one side of our box, we removed it and subsequently removed any little specks of it that reappeared. `it eventually reduced the growing medium to a third of it's original size, which obviously felt like a failure, but now we have approx 25 little babies which should be ready within the week. It's a very satisfying thing to do - the first thing i do every morning and every evening when i get home is check them out. with the kits, temperature should be between 23 and 26 for colonisation and between 21 and 23 for fruiting...
Be careful, your mushrooms might be contaminated. Shit...MY JARS ARE CONTAMED! IM SAD! Here a tip to make super potent syringes from a single spore syringe...THAT I WILL DO and hopefully ill be on time! ... You fill a glass jar with water, and add a teaspoon of honey! Make sure you use a lid ythat you can puncture with a needle!...Pasteurize this in your pressure cooker for 1 hour...Let cool...Inject a few cc of spore solution , fill the hole with some clean resin of your choice, silicone, epoxy, whatever. Put in incubator...After a few days, the mycelium just starts eatign the honey and growing! When you have a nice amount of mycelium you just suck some up with a clean syringe!!!! Jars can colonize in even 1 week! Im goin to make bulk bags though.
Liquid inoculants are always fun to work with. You can find some interesting info on liquid cultures here. Personally, I use dextrose over honey, and one can also use karo with great results. It is a great way to get going. Instead of having spores that need rehydration and then germination time... you have a "live/hot" inoculation which does indeed save you a few days of time. Not to mention, you can can use dextrose jars to do isolates. Are you referring to a "TIT" (Tub in Tub) incubator? An easier description....using two identical rubbermaids.... I take an place 5 125 ml mason jars in the bottom with one in each corner and one in the middle for support. Put a submersible fish tank heater in the bottom (tronic is a good brand) and cover with water ( i use a little peroxide also) till it is over the mason jars. Then you slide the second rubbermaid into the first. It is ready to go. I used to seal between the two tubs but over time... found that leaving the space for air between the tubs, made no difference. A good heater with a built in thermostat... usually works faithfully... after all they are made to keep fish warm without killing them with flucuations. Sorry you have had bad luck with your tit. I have ran one for 3 years straight now, and have not had a single issue with it Usually, to have jars run that fast you have to find an agressive colonizer and work with it. Certain fungi can be a bit more agressive than others. With a bit of isolating, I have seen lots of jars in the 6 - 8 day range... but lots of factors can determine the time a jar takes to colonize I once had a jar colonize in 3 days.... but it was a shot glass I was playing around with Most take longer than a week. I have been using bags for over a year now. Have thier pros and disadvantages in my opinion, but overall, they are pretty nifty. I tend to use bags for large amounts of grain for spawn... if anything. For a great place, on informative reading about growing mushrooms, check out the archives here The temperature is what you keep it at... Controlled environment. Might get cold where you are at... but something tells me you most likely do not live in an unheated barn
