Hi I would like to hook up with people who could tell me all about the hippie movment and the music festivals and how it was to be apart of the hippie movment and festivals hope to here from you
The original hippys were pioneers. We took alot of flack because we searched for a new alternative way, we were beat up, looked down upon, hated. Our long hair and bellbottoms rubbed some people raw. We fought the status quo with everything we could. We protested the wrongs in the world, wishing to make the world a better place. We paved the way for the freaks and punks and everything in between. The earth was our church and music was a sacrament. The music gave us power. It uplifted our spirits. It bonded us to a common theme. In seeking to remove ourselves from the system and "authority" we each took a different path. Some hit the road and began wandering, following the Dead or some such. Some drowned themselves in mind altering substances, trying to change their world from within. Some headed for the woods and nature, to live as closely to the land and our roots as possible. There are still many, whose ideals have not changed. We are getting harder and harder to find. We found that changing the world was more than we could handle by ourselves. So we stay up our hollers or on our mountains, or back in the woods, living in a less glittery world than most. We ran away from the system we so wanted to change. Some ran away from the system by following gatherings where they could find others like them. They are the ones who work so hard to take care of those who won't or can't take care of themselves. The others, those who have the appearance of hippys, the ones who seem on the surface to be hippys, but their actions betray them, they are cheap imitations. Those are the ones who show up at festivals mainly for the drugs and alcohol. The ones who leave all their trash behind for someone else to pick up. The ones who toss their cig butts and gum wrappers on the ground and get into fights... The ones who contribute nothing, but take what ever they can. Those are not hippys.
Very good and true-I lived on a commune in N Cal for a year after the Haight fell-One day I met a young blind guy-He had been at one of the Berkeley Peace rallies and got hit by something the police fired into the crowd-Totally blind but still positive and active-I miss that kind of spirit-it is needed today again-
I'd add to this, but then she has it all although the drugs were not a bad thing, learned a lot from others, and about myself getting high, and enjoyed the comune.
my parents were lesbian hippies and they bred me to be a hippie so the hippie spirit would be passed to a new generation
