OK, so my son is only 20 months old now, but I've been planning on homeschooling since before he was born. It was confirmed when he turned out to be a very spirited little boy who would certainly wilt in a containing environment. We are Pagan and I want to incorporate our beliefs into our homeschooling/unschooling curriculum. Does anyone know of any Pagan or Pagan-friendly curriculums out there?

i don't, but i know people who do. I'd suggest you join your local eclectic homeschool support group. if there isn't one, start your own. There you will meet other parents who share your philosophies and beliefs, who are also homeschooling their children. I joined an eclectic homeschool group (the only one here that was not of fundamentalist christian flavor) when my oldest was only 15 months old, and was welcomed without hesitation into their "family"

Why??? Keep the religion and the education seperate. Education should be about using logic to make your own decisions which in my opinion is not compatable with the religion.

I was about to say the exact same thing.I'm doing a research project on the affects of incorporating religion into education and so far I have been finding negative findings. students are behind in their academics homeschooled or not when religion is envolved.

There's nothing wrong with incorporating religious lessons into a curriculum, which is why we have religious schools. What you can do is have a regular homeschool curric, + devote a couple classes a week to teaching paganism. Revolve a history lesson or two around an upcoming pagan holiday. A homeschooled art class can make decorations for another pagan holiday. Stuff like that.

Do you want to ruin his life?

Sorry but you can still incorporate your beliefs into his everyday life.

I think homeschooling makes kids antisocial.

If you don't agree with homeschooling, what are you doing in the homeschooling forum? Fuck off and mind your own business.

I see that you're a college freshman, with probably no children of your own, which means that when it comes to deciding what is right for your child and your child alone, you haven't crossed that bridge yet, so to tell a mother that she is going to ruin her child? That's a personal opinion. Too many people come into the homeschooling forum and attack these parents who are doing what they feel in their hearts is right for their children. Show a little respect for these parents, everyone is different!

If you honestly knew what goes on "socialization-wise" at even the elementary schools, and you saw how young children, I'm talking 5, 6 year olds treat one another, the laungage that comes out of their mouths, the lack of respect, the bullying, and the fact that it continues to get worse and worse throughout the years, really, I think if anything, parents who choose to homeschool are protecting their children.

Too many times people are mislead into believing that a homeschooled child is an antisocial one. While that may be the case with some, it's certainly not the case with all.

I'm a mother of three, and my oldest is a first grader in very reputable public school due to an open enrollment that I had to really fight for, otherwise, if he had to go to the PS that was in our area, I'd homeschool him in a heartbeat. So while I'm not technically a homeschooling parent (although I'm homeschooling my younger twins for preschool just as I did with my oldest) I fully support homeschooling parents!

I'm currently doing a lot of research envolving religion and schooling. I'm going to a lot of different schools and looking at test scores. I'm going to catholic and Waldrof schools to geth my data. my methods are interviewing teachers and parents, observing students in their natural classroom settings, and looking at test scores. I'm keeping my opinions out of it until I finish my research. It will be writen up as a scholarly article. The only thing I'm going to say is that I believe a human being should be able to chose what religion is best for them. They will find this as the grow older. I will share my findings with everyone by december when I finish. This topic is very interesting to me.
