10/26/2006 5:45:00 AM GMT Yesterday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) began airing its 30-second anti-terror ad titled "Not in the Name of Islam" on cable networks in Minnesota, CAIR announced on its website. Washington based CAIR, is America's largest Islamic civil liberties group, with 26 regional offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. CAIR's ad features American Muslims stating; "We often hear claims Muslims don't condemn terrorism and that Islam condones violence. As Muslims, we want to state clearly that those who commit acts of terror in the name of Islam are betraying the teachings of the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). We reject anyone ¬ of any faith - who commits such brutal acts and will not allow our faith to be hijacked by criminals. Islam is not about hatred and violence. It's about peace and justice." CAIR launched this anti-terror campaign, which also included "Not in the Name of Islam" online petition, signed by hundreds of thousands of Muslims worldwide, in an attempt to eliminate the false link established by the U.S. government and the mainstream media between Islam and terrorism following September 11 attacks. “Not in the Name of Islam” online petition drive allows Muslims and other people of conscience worldwide to help clear the widespread misperceptions about the noble faith of Islam and explains that Islam prohibits attacks on innocent people and shuns violence in all its forms. “Not in the Name of Islam” petition states that: “We, the undersigned, wish to state clearly that those who commit acts of terror and murder in the name of Islam are not only destroying innocent lives, but are also devastating the image of the faith they claim to represent. No injustice done to Muslims can ever justify the massacre of innocent people and no act of terror will ever serve the cause of Islam. We repudiate and disassociate ourselves from any Muslim group or individual who commits such brutal and un-Islamic acts. Islam must not be held hostage by the criminal actions of a tiny minority acting outside both the boundaries of their faith and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).” “We hope this effort will demonstrate once and for all that Muslims in America and throughout the Islamic world reject violence committed in the name of Islam,” said CAIR Board Chairman Omar Ahmad, urging people of all faiths to “do whatever they can to help end the downward spiral of mutual hostility and hatred that is engulfing our world.” View CAIR's ad at: http://www.cair.com/video/psa.rm Participate in The petition on the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) web site (www.cair-net.org). •Republicans’ “Terror Ad” Earlier this week, the U.S. Republican Party launched a controversial terror ad entitled "The Stakes", in an attempt to win public support over the American President George W. Bush’ s so-called war on terror ahead of the country’s mid-term congressional elections, scheduled to be held on November 7. The ad features Al Qaeda leaders Osama Bin Laden and Ayman Al Zawahiri, along with threatening statements, and sound of a ticking bomb in the background. "What is yet to come will be even greater," the ad, which ends with the sound of a bomb exploding, quotes Bin Laden as saying. "These are the stakes. Vote November 7." Across the screen, flash quotes such as "Kill the Americans" and "What is yet to come will be even greater". The Republican National Committee ad warns voters that "these are the stakes" in the November 7 election. Democrats criticised the commercial, calling it scaremongering. A statement on the Democratic National Committee website called the advertisement "a desperate ploy to once again try to scare voters and distract from their failures". "Republicans are so afraid of their abysmal record they can't offer one example of what they've done to keep America safe," the statement said. But the Republican National Committee defended the ad, arguing it "underscores the high stakes America faces in the global War on Terror".
