I have very terrible, painful periods. Usually medications like Tylenol, Aspirin, and Midol aren't enough to keep the cramps at bay. I've seen a doctor about it and got some prescription meds for it, but it's still a pain. Is this a common problem for other women like yourselves?

yes, it is common, but no, it is not normal. That kind of pain is a sign that something is wrong. If your doctor did not take your pain seriously, or suggest looking further into finding the cause of your pain, you need to find a new doctor. 80% (or more) of women who complain of menstrual discomfort have endometriosis.

Yes, I get really bad cramps.

Extended birth control (only 4 periods a year) is a wonderful thing!

    I get insane cramps!!!

Next month, try taking some Midol a couple days before you start bleeding. I started doing it in August. I take two doses a day for 1 or 2 days before it starts, and it helps quite a bit! I'm also going to cut back on milk and see if that helps.

i have period pains, sometimes not so bad & sometimes they are really quite painful. i find wheat bags really good for pain reliefe. just heat them up in the microwave for 1 minuit & put it on your lower belly, pain goes away & its natural rather than poping pills all the time for pain reliefe. doctors have now said that heat is a natural pain reliefe & its not all been in my head all these years!

Yes, very painfull cramps are normal for me.. I used to get them so bad that I could not even move without being in so much pain. I am on depo(birth control) shot. So I have not really had a period in a while.. But then again I am only 18 and my period was never regular so. But they still really hurt. I used to lay in bed with a heating pad that seemed to help. or I would let my little yorkie puppy sit on my lap cause her body heat would lossen then craps.

I had such bad cramps and such a heavy flow that ALL I wanted to do was lie in bed and cry.
I started birth control and my periods went from 9 heavy days to just 3 or 4 days of pretty mild bleeding and just a day of very mild cramps. I took Ortho Tri-Cyclen.

My Period Pain Gets so Bad...I Throw up...

Get Pain in Legs and Back...Pretty Badly...

So my Doctor Prescribed me Mefenamic Acid...250 mg...Blue/Yellow Capsules...

I've Never Looked them up Though...

But They Seem to Work...Although the Flow is Just as Heavy...

They Bring About a Strange Numbness...Relieving...

But if I Don't take them a few Hours Before Period...They Only Lessen the Pain Slightly...

Definatley go get some tests done. You just may find something.
I had period cramps just like mubpuddle described, where I would throw up cuz the pain was so bad.
I do find that the heating pad is one of the best things. I usually take a couple tylenol, get into some comfortable clothes, crawl into bed and take 2 hot water bottles with me. One goes on my back and one goes on my stomach. I can usually get into a decent position and pass out for a few hours and feel better once I wake up.
I would also look into the birth control. Every time that I went on that, it helped the cramps quite a bit. I still have the odd period where I'm still in some pretty bad pain, but it's nothing like it was before. There were days that I would be sitting in the bathroom on the toilet screaming in pain because it hurt so bad. It was hell.
Having my daughter also helped it a ton, but for sure, check out some BC options if nothing is found regarding endometriosis. I was tested for it and nothing came up, but in your case, you may have it.

Mefenic Acid is in the NSAID family. (Non Steroidal Anti Infamlamitory) similar to drugs like Ibuprophen, Aleve, Toradol (the heavy guns of NSAIDS and a kidney killer, this one) Mefenic Acid is strong, but not a narcotic. Just watch your tummy, as some people get pretty nasty heartburn when they take it. It is distantly related to aspirin, but not closely.

the only way to "test" for endo is surgery. even if they didn't see anything, it doesn't mean there wasn't any there, either too small to be seen, or hiding behind other organs. www.womenssurgerygroup.com has lots of info.

^^ I didn't know that. The doctor that I saw had me go in for an ultrasound and when we were done, he said, "nope, nothing is wrong with you." Then I went home keeled over in pain again......
I wonder if I should still go check this out now that I've had Leane and they're not AS painful as they used to be???
