Chocolate is actually a nut that you can eat by itself with no cooking or processing...This is the best kind I've ever had, the unfermented criollo variety. 200 beans for 10 bucks...affordable, organic, and raw!!!

It's very bitter imo...but I can make a mean raw chocoalte shake with it :) It really is "the food of the gods"

The chocolate bar is actually a relatively recent invention. For much of chocolate's history, it was consumed as a beverage. It's thought people did this because south american people intuitively knew chocolate was a high fiber food, and like many high fiber foods..it has a drying effect on the body. It's one of the highest foods in fiber actually...

wow, i've never seen anything like that around here. i bet it would be incredibly bitter. wonder what it's like with a bit of stevia.

what do you mean by a drying effect? constipating?

herb is completely addicted to this stuff... he can eat it by the handful. He makes chocolate drinks out of it and puts it in cereal and oatmeal, but he's a chocoholic, so yeah.

I can have one to three small handfuls a day... it's bitter but not too bitter, some peices aren't bitter at all, while others are. I usually eat it in smoothies though, and it is really awesome in smoothies. This brand is the only brand we've found that tastes really pure... if it tastes or smells vinegary it's not good.

It's a great pick me up, if you don't have time to eat, really hungry or just not feeling too well. I've never had any bad side effects, but if you eat a lot(which I've never done) you can get pretty high.

i did see some raw cocao beans around here. funny how that works, never noticed them before, anyways, they're 20$ for 100g!! thaT'S totally insane pricing. dont think raw cocao is going to be part of my reality unless someone knows of a reasonably priced canadian source with decent shipping prices....

hey nimh their on sale right now @ http://www.rawfood.com 10 bucks=200 beans. that lasts me over a month easily. it's a powerful food and you don't need a lot. 5-15 beans in a good raw organic honey and your good to go really.

this is one of those things that you let the price go. if it costs a lot, it costs a lot. you can budget out other parts of your diet, but not chocolate. it's one thing you can't skimp on, lol.

    LOL
I am the same way and I had the same thought recently. About a month ago I had an endangered species bar and it just was not the same...I haven't had a chocolate bar since(except the raw ones I make ; ) Cacao beans are such a profound food when you eat them before their processed....

Which kind did you try and how did you use them???
