I'm just curious if anyone here has used yoga for weight loss. I'm currently overweight and have tried everything from deits to good ol' exercise but nothing seems to be able to take the pounds off. I was also wondering what other benifits yoga would have to offer besides weight loss.
Depends what type of yoga. There are classes where you burn over 1000 calories in an hour. I know it's improved my posture and leaned out my upper body. It changes the shape of your body more than you lose mad amounts of weight. Though, I am assuming since it does burn calories you would lose weight
No matter what form of exercise you get into can result in weight loss, as long as you are consistent in doing the exercise.
a lot of people hold extra weight because of stress. since yoga is so excellent for getting the breath into your body and helping to let go of stress, many people find that they begin to lose weight as they begin to let go of their stress. yoga also helps you find your body awareness, and many people find that, when they connect to their body, they begin to treat it better and respect it, and so again, start to lost weight. plus, of course, yoga is excercise, and especially if you're not used to doing excercise, it'll help you lose the weight. I know of a lot of people who have found yoga to be the best way to lose weight (for them) because it doesn't just shift your diet or excercise habits which can be hard to keep up, but it shifts your whole lifestyle. just my two cents worth
Thank you for all the responses. I'm starting a yoga routine starting tomorrow morning, I'm hoping this is going to work.
