Since almost every river in the American West has been dammed, what do you see as the value, if any, of a wild, undammed river?
Personally, I value preserving our natural wilderness areas. Unfortunately, most developers don't see it that way.
The fact that young streams untouched by man can develop and impact their surrounding areas in ways man never dreamed is value enough to allow them to exist without intervention. It's mother nature at it's best. It probably doesn't suit developers, but then mother nature has ideas of her own. And eventually I think she will win out.
