What is the one beer that you consider to be above and beyond all others. You get one choice. In my opinion the greatest beer i have ever had the privilege to taste is without a doubt Westvleteren 8. I've been fortunate enough to have consumed a total of 6 in my time, the last of which was 2 years ago. It is pretty much impossible to find in any bar. If you do happen to find it, let me know. I would travel across country for it Its that good! Even in belgium its difficult to come across. What i wouldn't do for one right now..........
For me, Rogues Red Ale. Not all fancy like, but without hesitation I will claim it to be the best beer I've ever had.
The beer store I go to has Westvleteren. I'm not sure about the bars. I haven't seen it at the ones I've been to.
The best beer I ever had was at the world's end in edinburgh. It was called Orkney Dark Island. It was luke warm and thick as motor oil.
Then they must go to the brewery On one of the 36 days of the year that it is on sale or they know someone that does it for them. Considering the monks do not export any of their product, it can only be imported here illegally. On top of that, buyers at the brewery are limited to 2 cases per car.
I'm going to be an unoriginal **** and place Stella at the top of my limited beer hierachy. And this will probably render all my following statements in this forum void, but i'm putting Carlton Draught (bottle) at number two.
You're right -- my bad. I was confusing Westvleteren with Rochefort Trappistes... another top-of-the-line Belgian which is right up there with Westvleteren. I actually never had Westvleteren before, but Rochefort ranks up there with the best I've had, though at close to $10 a bottle, I don't buy it too often.
Iniss & gunns oak aged ale.....this stuff in ubeleavably good http://www.innisandgunn.com/innisandgunn.html
its too hard for me to choose one above and beyond all others i've tried, but among my -current- favorites are old rasputin russian imperial stout, samuel smith's taddy porter, gulden draak, chimay cinq cents, and paulaner hefeweizen.
I have not drank nearly enough kinds of beer to say difinitively which one is my favorite. However, my favorites right now are Atwater Rost and Oktoberfest (a microbrew from a local brewery) I like Ambers the best.
