Have any of you been to one? What is it like? Is it much better than just your average doctor, do they listen more carefully? My psychologist suggested I see one for my ongoing aches and pains and allergies; she said he would help to evaluate my history and build up a stronger body...threshold as she put it, so that I'm not constantly under going aches and pains and allergies because my threshold is so low... if that makes sense to any of you/ it did to me. But, I've never heard of these sorts of doctors until I saw her last week, and I'm really curious as to what I'm in for. I have an appointment set up for Wednesday at 5, and I want to be a bit prepared. Any comments or suggestions?
Yes, I have been to one and I loved her. The term Integrative Doctor is usually used (and correctly so) to refer to an MD (Medical Doctor) or OD (Osteopathic Doctor) who incorporates alternative and complementary modalities into his or her practice. An example of an Integrative Doctor is Andrew Weil. He is a Doctor who attended Harvard's Medical School and then discoverd the benefits of complementary and alternative practices and therapies then applied them to his practice. Itegrative Doctors may try to resolve your condition through several different channels. I highly recommend you give him/her a shot!
I went into my proctologist's office for my first rectal exam. His new nurse, Evelyn, took me to an examining room and told me to get undressed and have a seat until the doctor could see me. She said that he would only be a few minutes. After putting on the gown that she gave me I sat down. While waiting I observed that there were three items on a stand next to the exam table: ^a Tube of K-Y jelly, a rubber glove and a beer.^ When the doctor finally came in I said, "Look Doc, I'm a little confused. This is my first exam. I know what the K-Y is for and I know what the glove is for, but can you tell me what the BEER is for? At that Doctor Paul became noticeably outraged and stormed over to the door. He flung the door open and yelled to his nurse....... Darn it Evelyn !!!!!!!!!!! I said a BUTT LIGHT"
ya kno a&o an integrated doc is just what u need too often docs are far too restrictive in how they treate symptoms according to the standards of theyre particular specialty while an integrated doc draws from a far less restrictive philosophy of treatment and, not only treatment but diognosis as well, for instance, a standard doc might lokok at the symptoms..pain in joints or muscles or whatever, and give ya a pill while an integrated doc might use psychology, medical knowledge, holistic knowledge (mind body spirit interconnectiveness) and more to understand the problem on a deeper scale and then use a much more varied and comprehensive treatment for every aspect of well being including pains
yeah this guy does acupuncture, so if he recommends it I'm going to give it a shot. have any of you tried it? does it hurt?
the appointment went WELL. First of all, I was ecstatic to notice there was not a single scale in the exam room. The doctor was very clear, very precise, and asked me lots of questions...he actually CARED. He basically suggested a neti pot for all of my sinus and allergy crap, so I'm going to go out and hunt for one today. I'm a little excited to try it, because I've heard good things about it.... if it can work for me, like it has these other people, I will die of happiness. I plan on making him my primary doctor. He was the total SHIT.
