howdy, i'm in the central PA area, wondering if anyone out there wants to plan a trek in the near future lemme know i have some ideas about places. hit me up on AIM. Peace
I'm in Altoona/Williamsport. Where do you have in mind? Nice to see some other central PA members on here. Take care. -Bob
Either of you care to do a multi-day section hike on the AT in the Spring? I'm in MD but will travel. I hear PA is much rockier and a bitch on the ankles.
The rock comment is a huge understatement! What most people don't know is the the rocks in PA have microsopic mouths that have a voracious appetite for rubber and boot leather. PA does hove some really cool folks and has some really headie beer. Yeungling rules!!!! check out www.whiteblaze.net if you wanna meet some really cool hiking folks. A lotta of my hiker buddies live in PA.
First weekend of January and Im going. Havent hiked in a few years, but now I am free (as long as I find a babysitter for a little bit, Ill just ask his mom ) But yea, really excited, dont know where Im going yet, I have a few places in mind but I love winter hikes so I need to pick a great one
I'm waiting until March or so to give my AT gear a field test. Will either head South from Harper's Ferry or North from the MD/PA line.
I agree completely about everything you said, except for the yeungling part I would consider yeungling to be a lot of things, but headie is NOT one of them.
I agree again. Budweiser is a horrible substance that does not deserve to be labeled as beer. Yeunglings a step above but still not very good IMO. But hey, drink what you like! Its just not my flavor
i'll just be over here with my paulaner salvator and wishing i had some morphine to go with it. lol the brownies will have to do..
Oh damn... you had to pull out the wildcard. If I'm heading to the back of Liquor Barn and pass the Rogue display I'll never make it. Shakespeare Stout and Dead Guy... Mmmmm... Can we get back to Hiking though? You guys are making me thirsty!
Yea sorry man, I just tend to get excited talking about craft brews So, yea, about that hike I'm going on...........
I would drink Yeungling but ya can't get in the midwest. These people practically worship Buttweiser. Mmmm.... Yeungling. First time I had Yeungling I had just pulled 3 20 + mile days in 95 degree heat and *()%^ing PA rocks. At that point any beer tastes good! It seems that lots of us thru hikers tend to develope a taste for Yeunling when we're coming through PA. I turned some Britsh hikers to some Black n Tan. Those guys went nuts for it. First time I had Yeungling I drank 15- ? (not sure but thats about the time I lost count) then got up and hiked 16 miles the next day. Fortunately some fellow PA hikers warned me about scrapple before my first meal in PA.
Warned? What's wrong with scrapple? Everyone should get their daily dose of pig snout and cornmeal. Mmmmmm...
Eh. Slap a little maple syrup on it and don't think about what you're eating. We get our friends to eat it when they come in fro Tx and Ca. I eat some, they eat some, then we tell them what it is. They've all become familiar with the restrooms at our local diner.
Well the Port Clinton Hotel serves up some mighty tasty food in portions sizes that even seem big to hungry thru hikers! Its hard to top the PA Amish folks when it comes to breads and pasteries. In case ya'll may not know Earl Schaffer, who was the first AT thru hiker was from York PA. Earl hiked the AT in '48 did a southbound in 67 and did a 50th Anniversery hike in '98. My brother and I had the privilege of hiking with Earl for close to 1200 miles During our 98 hike.
