Probably not the BEST site to post, but I'm sure someone here might know something. I'm looking for a local source (Los Angeles) to buy a goat. I have three chickens and a composter. The goat would add to the landscape by chomping down the grass and by fertilizing soil.
I can't seem to finger anyone here who can deliver. This is not for breeding and not for milk or meat.

I would look up directories in county fairs...if there is one animal I see plenty of at fairs...its goats.

You should get a pygmy goat....too cute.

just though Id let you know, goats can smell pretty strong. have musk glands on the back of there necks. they also specifoc diet requirment that may requier suplments. feed suplements used for horses and cattle are not suitable for goats do to excesive copper

theyre also social herd animals, and your better off having a couple of them if you want any. as they'l do better that way.

with a quick web search I found this

If all you have is grass then maybe the goat will eat it , but if you have other tasty plants...
The pygmy goat is ok, our would bunt and hump the duck so...maybe he wouldn't if he had goat pals.

I'm getting some Nigerian Dwarf goats in a couple of weeks. I've been reading about goats a lot. Dwarfs and pygmy's are good for pets and in areas where you dont have a lot of land. You do need to have 2- either females, whethers (castrated males) or a combo. It's the intact males- bucks- that are really smelly and aggressive, and you dont need one unless you plan to breed, and you would need to keep him separated from the other goats.

I've had a hard time finding some in my area too. I'm getting some from about 2 hours away, and am going to borrow a truck with a topper to bring them home in.
Hope you find some! They are so sweet!

I'm a member of a few barrel horse boards and it seems there are quite a few people on there that have goats or know where to find them just about anywhere in the US. If you have time check out horsecity bulletin board or barrelhorseworld's forum. I can almost guarantee you'll find something.

ours was an uncastrated little boy and he was too aggressive (and ate everything but grass; I think stripping the hybiscus leaves was his swansong.
