John Kerry recently put foot in mouth in a botched joke that I am sure the republicans will be quick to captialize on. "Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."-John Kerry http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/W/WHITE_HOUSE_KERRY?SITE=OHDEF&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT I don't know why AP linked to Crescent News from Ohio, but I am sure this story will be hitting news everywhere.
John Kerry is absolutely correct The academic standards for acceptance into the US Military has been significantly lowered over the past 5 years. no doubt out of sheer desperation Hotwater
Why the hell is everyone condemning John Kerry for one mistake he made during a speech. First of all Kerry out of all people likes to have a meaningful punchline where ever he goes and this time it was the "get an education and if not go to Iraq", he just wanted to make a message clear that our country is sending good citizens to Iraq to die for a pointless cause. Obviously he was wrong in what he said but obviously thats not what he meant entirely.
how so? You still need a High school diploma(not a GED), or complete 1 semester of college. There is also an adult educatoin curriculum you can take to qualify. How have these standards fallen in the last 5 years?
Please the military is not full of stupid people, quite the oppisite. People who don't do well in school etc are much more likely to be taking the easy way out and sit at home doing drugs.
Kerry claimed that what he meant to say was, "If you don't, you get US stuck in Iraq." It was meant to be a slam at Bush. Kerry means well but he should leave the comedy to people who don't suck at it.
I got the joke. It wasn't very funny. Just more crap the Republicans can use to scare us into another two years of their agenda.
