Everytime I think I made a friend...

I get brutally corrected. People are mean.

 

yeah, they often do it out of a need to prove something to themselves....too many people these days seem to be so busy thinking about what they're going to say next, they aren't even listening to the person that is trying to talk to them

seems it's getting harder to make friends on anything more than a superficial level

Maybe "made" was a bad choice of words, I guess when I got to the point where I felt comfortable giving someone the benefit of the doubt, and letting that person into my "space", I find out that I was wrong to do so.

It turns out that I thought more of them, than they thought of me.

 

Yes....Ive been there many times...but ..if you stop taking chances with people...you might miss that person who would have been a wonderful friend !!!

Exactly.... that's why we're all on the net so much, it's much easier to deal with botched "social" interactions on here than in real life
