today in school we got to do "mock" election for the state house and senate races. So they tally all the votes from the state and see who would have won from just high school kids. Most people in my class voted democrat just to not vote republican. I voted green party, when asked why I repsonded, "because the democrats just make empty campain(sp) promisses to go against what ever the republicans say...and right now, I don't think there many people that are gonna trust the republicans right now, and I'm one of them." I was really hoping The libertarian candidate would made the ballad but he did'nt. So I went green party. And yes, I did research the candidates before voting.

Mock elections should prove something besides the fact that some students give a damn about the world around them, but they really don't.

Who was popular and who wasn't.

Really a school is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship where the most popular have the right to label and judge those lower in the chain, that is the sad truth.

Instead of a school election, why not a school revelotion? Give all the students red banners and play the philosophies is Marx over the tanoy and the whole process wouldbe a bit more intresting.

Well, face it there is a hierarchy in schools amongst students! You can ignore it, but it is blatently obvious.

    Bitter?

If high-school life was a dictatorship, the "popular" kids would enforce that spot with force.

The very notion of popularity is democratic.

Unless comparing the football players to Idi Amin made you feel better about yourself.

Ehh, not really. Everyone thinks everyone else is stupid/inferior/ignorant/etc. The hierarchy goes both ways. And really, that's only in small populations. When you have a huge school, the "popular" kids aren't even popular...they blend into the crowd just like anybody else, and they don't give a shit enough to make somebody else's life hell.

You're fifteen, you don't even know half of what high school is like.

Trust me, I know! I'm now homeschooled, but for 2 years, I was at the bottom.

Sure, everyone else things everyone else is stupid and inferior, but in every school, there is a a very small minority who everyone believes are inferior, because of their beliefs, disabilty, sexulallity. Infact, if you don't fit in with anyone, YOUR IN THAT PILE.

This was true in my old school. The adimistration didn't care about bullying and the majority students had no pity or shame. When I left, a few weeks later, the school got the label of the worst school in the city.

I'm not saying it's the same in every school, but trust me, In my old school there WAS a heirachy.

not to start a big argument about marxist theory, but Lenin argued that the movement from the bottom must be channeled properly through a strong leadership, which is still bottom up movement.

    Mate, what school is this?

And yes, whilst there is a heirarchy, theres ways of getting round it (ie, keeping your head solidly down).

I do however think that when arguing this with North Americans, theres is an entirely different culture in schools and youth, so its difficult for those on either side of the atlantic to get what the other lot are getting at.
