I'm now 3 months in South America and a week ago was the first time I dreamt in Spanish. The funny thing is that my Spanish sucks but in the dream it was a lot better than usual.Really strange.

Personallly, I have never dreamt in another language, but I'm sure if you knew other langauges, that woudl be a possibly. Me, I only know a little bit of Spanish...so yeah...but that is quite interesting. I've never thought about that before!

Gringo, as someone who has lots of odd dreams and who speaks five languages, in my humble opinion I believe that you are probably better at speaking and understanding Spanish than you give yourself credit for. Don't be afraid to jump in and use your Spanish now that you're in South America.

My teacher told me that if you dream in another language that means that you are real good at that language.

I think ThriftShopSweater hit the nail on the head ... if you can get your mind to "think" in Spanish (your inner monologue is in Spanish, which happens often when you visit a country that speaks that language), then it's not far off to have a dream in that same language; your brain is just thinking in a different language. =P

In fact my Spanish sucks.I'm really good at speaking English but I've never dreamt in that language.Perhaps i did because I'm in South America since a few months and start to get used to it(influence of the environment)

That's funny. I took French in school, and was pretty good but never totally fluent or anything. I have had dreams in which I was speaking fluent French! I remember that in one, I was speaking with people after having rescued these two children, a yound brother and sister, from floating in the ocean in a trunk!

Sometimes when I've had a French-language dream I wake up and remember some of the last words spoken, but I can still hear them when I return to consciousness and they are nonsensical gibberish! But I know that in the dream, they made sense! :p

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

when i first came to london i also was dreaming in english. i couldnt speak the language fluently, but i did in my dreams and i could understand perfectly.
the same happened when i was learning french in school.
i guess your brain is trying to cope with the information overload!!
