Here in the states her adoption wouldn't have been allowed based on the race of the child. Native American children and children of race are usually recommended as being adopted by those of their culture, not outside of it for reasons based on the "nurture" theory.

Certainly this child will probably have all of the advantages she and her money can give it, but what about the knowledge of it's culture and heritage.

I don't necessary agree with these arguments, but many safe families have had children ripped from their adopted homes, based on this theory. Why shouldn't she be held to it as well.

So she adopted a baby? Oh well... I would understand this scandal if her intentions were to eat the baby.

I am sure that it's for publicity, at least at a certain degree, but don't you think Madonna has enough publicity as it is? She doesn't have to adopt a bloody baby to get people to know her name.

Making a big deal out of this issue is the only thing that gives Madonna more publicity.

Just drop it and let her be.

Shouldn't people be more concerned about the happiness of the baby though? I'm sure the baby is ecstatic...I know I would be.

good for the baby, but who cares. In the scope of the world madonna is just another celebrity out for publicity. other people adopt babies every day and no one cares except them and their families. yeah, adopting from your own country would be best.
gardener that is or was true to an extent in the US. not so much any more except for native american children, but that is because the tribes claim the children and do not want to lose any of their children to other cultures considering that it was done with out permission for so many years so that the government could assimilate and not pay out to the natives...once adopted by someone else they are not legally of the tribe so they get no money's or other government funding such as free college...other cultures are different now. I am the foster mother and potential adoping mother of a bi-racial child(white and african american) my husband is white/hispanic, I am white/native american and my children are i guess...tri-racial hehe. so i really think that all the cultural adopting issues have lightened up in the past few years. or maybe its just that we are a big ol' rainbow coalition at my house....hehe
as far as the celeb. goes what ever at least a baby will get a home.

That's absolutely false. My grandparents adopted 4 children and all of them are different races. One is even of middle-east descent. Plenty of white people adopt black children, hispanic children, asian children.ect.

Madonna would have had her pick of any of the kids here in the states or in the UK based on her income alone let alone the fact that she is, indeed, a good mom to her children.

The thing about adopting kids from 3rd world countries is that people seem to think they are somehow doing more good by adopting those kids than by adopting a kid from their home country. Kids are kids...but it's sad that there are so many African-American children in the US that aren't getting adopted, because people willing to adopt kids of a different race would rather import.

Im sorry...it just makes me sick that there are children that really need homes and food and love right here in the U.S. but they get little if no attention . Save The Children needs to do some work here ...people know already about the kids in Africa and elsewhere !!

My big problem is that people might start to think that the answer to these children's problems is to adopt them out of these third world nations. In reality, it's a global problem that needs to be addressed by whole nations. Children should be kept with parents, and the whole nations should be helped to at least self-suffiency. However, while none of this is happening, I think people will only start to see adoption as the key and not the major underlying crisis for the nations of these children.

I must agree with the last 2 post. facing and dealing with issues in 3rd world countries would be more beneficial than adoption in those coutries, except in the case of china where the laws are gender biased to babies and the country itself is rich, but the general public is poor. And I think that if you feel the need to adopt an impoverished and/or abandoned child look in your own backyard first I know I sure do.

meh.. I don't have a problem with it at all. A starving child is a starving child regardless of where it was born, the colour of its skin, the religion of its' parents. I don't care if you adopted a poor child from the MOON! Its still a poor child that is not having its needs met.

Kudos to people who adopt... where ever they adopt from.

facing/dealing with the problems of the 3rd world would be wonderful. Unfortunatly it is going to take more time than these children have... they will most likely be dead by the time the "1st world" gets its collective head out of its ass enough to actually do something. No, I am not talking about Bono... I am talking about elected leaders.

Ever spent any time in a 3rd world orphanage? Talked to the 5 yr olds who run in packs throughout the inner cities of these countries? Kids who wear and eat garbage? I could go on and on about the things these kids face day in and day out.. but I would sound like one of those Christian Children Fund commericals.

Basically, I think that its good she adopted an severally unpriviledged child.. regardless of where that child was born.

Madonna also donated 3 MILLION dollars to this country to fund the care of every single child in the orphanage and to build a new one to house more children in better conditions. Not only will she give david a better life but she is also making a better life possible for the children in the country so that they can grow up in their native land....but be healthier & better cared for.

I don't think it's fair to say that adopted babies are a celebrity "trend". More and more average joe american's are adopting from africa....would you say that they only adopted their baby as a trend or publicity? Why the scandal?

I think everyone who has jumped on the hysterical-without-a- reasonable-cause, should calm down. Madonna adopted a child who would otherwise starve, have flies on him and would no doubt end in tragedy.

The fact Madonna is a celebrity seems to have set the stage for dramatic slanging matches and witch hunts. If I had that much money, I would probably do the same. If you have the money, you should. Help make the world a better place. Yes, there are starving children in other parts of the world. Madonna is a singer, not a miracle worker.

lets put the pitchforks, blazing torches and placards with deliberate wrong spelling quotes down for a minute.
