ok. so i finanly found a path across an imposiible creek to the cow yard with heaps of cows in. im in australia, brisbane, and were kinda in the middle of a drought. i noticed under the fresh looking cow shit the grass was bright green and very long, while most of the other grass was prety pretty dead brown. its pretty much just a big field with a few trees. its sapose to rain and storm a few days this week. so the day after a few days of rain, im gonna go back there, and search the field. looking on and under cow shit. somhow i seem doubtfull in myself that I, me, could actually find my own mushrooms. i mean shit, my dream of tripping on shrooms could come true sooner than later. im gonna deffinatly post some pictures of the field and some cows along with any mushrooms i may find. i really dont know what im asking in this topic, but maybe some tips. and what are my chances of actually finding somthing after the rain... i have so much doubt as i am allways let down in these sort of cirrcumstances. thanks, tell me your stories of picking mushrrooms from cow fields. details are greatly apreciated.
buy them?? its alot safer then picking stuff when you arent experienced about mush hunting at all. but i would check other sites like Erowid.org and shroomery for tips too if you dont want to spend $15-$20 on more then your likely to find (but who knows i got a friend who found 2 pounds of shrooms )
if you dont know exactly what your doin ya dont wanna be pickin shrooms improper identification is a huge risk if u do find some..tap the cap b4 u pick em...& they'll grow there again next rain but dont tapem all csause think u need a spore pattern to really id them even after u r fairly sure of an identification (would not recomend you do it yourself unless u really trust uknow what your doing) even then id start with a nibble only keep in mind some dont show the toxic effects for weeks others can kill very very fast looking psychodelic does not count as an id
you know the ol' adage: if it turns blue, it's true. don't need a Ph.D. in Mycology. only psilocybes turn blue when bruised but if you pick em, dry em. you don't want fly larvae spawning in your intestines
well, i have done hours of research on both erowid, shroomery.org, lycaeum, and a few others. i realise im most deffinatly going to find Psilocybe cubensis, i read in an FAQ thats its actually pretty safe, as Psilocybe are the only ones that grow in cow shit and bruise blue, or somthing similar. stuff trying to find that article again. but iv looked over tonns of pictures. and it seems that i am somwhat knowledgable now. ofcourse i will still post some pictures of them on this site, and do all the checks, and still then yes, i will only take a nibble and be very carfull. shit, i didnt know about the larva in the stomach. shit, im gonna now read about drying them. though i was thinking about just washing them and eating them that night? keep giving me more tips so i dont kill myself, thanks. oh, and buying them is pretty much impossible around here. know one sells them. its pretty much known if you want them you gotta pick em yourself. but i know a guy who picked some in my town and tripped, so i have hope.
iv heard of people just picking them and eating them right there on the field, is this larvae in the stomach bullshit? also, say i got the mushrrooms, can i just maybe rinse them in water quickly and eat them. or what? or to dry them, just leave them im my dark cupboard out in the open for a few days. is it hygeinic not to wash them? eating fresh mushrroms produces stronger effects than dried, i have read. so what preperation do i need to make them edible when fresh? any? - its been raining like all last night and heavily pretty much all today, it has stopped now (tongiht), and it has gotten kinda chilly, producing shit loads of fog. tomorrow im goona go see if there are any shrooms. hopfully with a bit of luck i may find some.
If you want to eat em fresh...eat about 10x the amount you would take dry. Personally I would hceck in the gills for bugs, and wash em too.
Not true, there are a number of mushrooms that can stain blue. Several of the Bolites will stain blue as will several Suellis(sp I am sure). For that matter, one of my favorites, Panaeolus subbalteatus almost never stains blue (very easy in outdoor culture and remarkably unnoticable). It is safer topick a blueing mushroom, but if that is all you go by you can still end up in trouble. I suggest you go buy Paul Stamets book, "Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World." 30 dollars well spent.
i went looking today, and shit i didnt see anything at all. no sign of a mushrooms of any type, not on, not under any cow patties. i took a few pictures with my phone and resised them below. the bottom of the hill was more squashy and wet with lots of puddles, but even up the hill i didnt see shit. there was cow shit everywhere. i made a little video and i got some more pictures if i guess you wanted to see them. i guess there was only one day of rain, and we have had a drought for a while. so i guess i wait till the end of the week after a few more days of rain, then do you guys think it would be worth my while going back? plus cause of the rain, the creek i once easily walked through wasnt quite so easy....arhhh.
