Ok, my fiance got herself pierced for both me and her (she's wanted one for years), but where she's been pierced there has been this watery discharge coming out. She asked the person who did it and that person said "its normal, don't worry about it" but I thought I'd ask about a bit... anyone else know about this? Someone else told me its infected, but its not red or anything. Basically, she got her navel pierced about 2 months ago, and since then its still be discharging liquid. The person who did it said it can take 9 months for a bellybutton piercing to totally heal, and that the dischage is the body still healing around the piercing. True or false? I need to know if we should take the piercing out, because both of us love it on her. She cleans it every day with whatever disenfectant they told her to use... we just both worry about the discharge, because along with it it hurts a tiny bit from time to time.
It shouldn't still be leaking. And, I've never heard of a navel piercing taking up to 9 months to heal. It's always been 6 or 7 weeks....if that. DON'T TAKE IT OUT if it's infected, which it sounds to be. Use hot salt water to clean the piercing. Put the hot water and salt into a dixie cup and hold it on the piercing for about 10 or 15 minutes; 2 or 3 times a day until it's healed. Table salt is fine.
well, is normal for like the first two or even three weeks for there to be a discharge. but not that long. god. and it shouldnt take 9months to heal. but yeah DONT take it out. just use saltwater
It's called lymph. Which is basically just her body getting rid of dead cells and plasma. As long as the fluid is transparent then she has nothing to worry about. The tiny bit of pain she is experiencing is probably from the discharge drying and getting pulled into the piercing which causes small tears. Do warm sea salt soaks twice a day with 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 8 ounces of water for 10 minutes. Do not make it stronger or it will irritate the piercing. Use non-iodized sea salt. Regular table salt is iodized, as is some sea salt. Read the lable. Iodine will irritate the piercing. You can buy non-iodized sea salt at pretty much any supermarket. Navel piercings usually take 6 months to a year to fully heal. Piercings heal from the outside in so many people think that they are actually healed before they really are.
