So I have a minor lung infection, and I'm taking antibiotics for three days, and I know they diminish the effects of the pill, but can anyone tell me for about how long? Is it just for the time your'e taking them - or does it last longer past that? I know it's probably different for each antibiotic/pill, but this is a question I forgot to ask my doctor and was wondering if anyone oculd give me any helpful advice. Thanks guys :)

I've heard about a week after your last antibiotic, but that's just what I've heard not a hard and true fact

Yeah, that's what a lot of other people have told me, so I think that's right. Gonna call the doc tomorrow just to make sure though. Thanks:)

Having been sick a fair amount last year and on a lot of anti-biotics, I also had this concern.

Yes, anti-biotics can affect the effectiveness of the Pill, although I've been told by several doctors that the impact these days is mininmal, but still, rather be safe than sorry.

The recommended course of action is to use a back-up method (e.g. condoms or otherwise abstain) for up to 7 days after your last anti-biotic. After that time you are safe to go back to just the Pill. The exception to this would be if that 7-day winow period is going to extend past your last in-active (sugar) pill. If that is the case, then you don't take the sugar pills at all, but rather go straight from your current pack onto the next one (starting with the first appropriate active pill on that pack), so in other words you essenmtially "skip" your withdrawal.

The reason for this is that in some women it can take as little as 24 hours for their natural cycle to kick back in, so you need to prevent that by skipping the withdrawal and keeping a constant level of hormones in your body to prevent it slipping back into it's natural cycle.

    Hope that helps :)

well, my ex has a kid with his ex because they fucked when she was on antibiotics and didn't use a condom.... I'd -strongly- recommend using a backup method (like you mentioned)

Well I just started my new pack of pills 3 days ago, so no worries there. And my doc told me the exact same thing, use a back up for a week or abstain for a week after my last antibiotic. Thanks for your advice guys :)

apparently for as long as you're taking the antibiotic, you should use condoms with whoever you sleep with. my friend didn't and she was knocked up with her 4th child. so just be careful with that situation...

If my gf is prescribed antibiotics we have to use condoms during and for 2 weeks afterwards. The box you got the pill in should have a sheet with all the information you need on it.
