The parent that i would like to be so here's a list to help you follow along!
    1. any child who has sworn shall get soap.
    2. any child of mine who talks back to me will get paddled.
    3. any child of mine who likes to listen to rap and acts gangster style gets grounded harshly no t.v. or music for a week.
    4. any male child of mine who is caught wearing girly pants and likes to act like an emo gets the same punishment as #3 also gets new Boy jeans.
    5. any child of mine will be put through labor and not just doing the dishes! or the simple stuff like doing the laundry or taking the garbage out.

there i hope you like my list remember i'm not basing this off of the fact that most freshmen still have squeaky voices, like to complain about taking the garbage out, dresses like a gangster or an emo (except for their short and unmuscular) and real ones aren't, also i do not post this as the fact that i hate rap music i just hate alot of wanna-be's who'll never be. again that freshmen thing is totally unrelated with this thread.
and tell me what you think of my guidelines as a parent!

what do you mean? i got paddled all the time when i was a kid! also got my mouth washed out with soap. i don't see whats wrong with 1,2,5 because i've gone through it! 3,4 are my own lil add ons though. but the important thing is that i like this list!

really? i see that's why kids act all potty mouthed in squeky voices today... so what are parents supposed to do when one of their kids curses? send them to their room? thats a big help ain't it! make them do dishes because they talked back to you? that's really a smart thing to do it's gonna change their mind forever!... does this rule apply for canada?

How about something as simple as giving them a choice? Showing them to the best of your abilities what there actions might incur, in thier life. I've found explaining why and letting them know why it's not cool to act that way works the best. For the most part it's setting the example. Hitting a kid, terrible. Teach them why or why not, simple.

    1. any child who has sworn shall get soap.

my dad used to do this to me when i was a kid & cant have been very successful way of punishing because i carried on swaring (tho very careful not to infront of him) & i still do.

    2. any child of mine who talks back to me will get paddled.

ok, i'm a little unsure of what you mean by paddled but if its been smacked or hit with something then this dont work either. i used to get smacked as a kid, i got smacked quite a bit more than my brother (dont know about my sisters cus they are quite a bit older & a bit more well behaved). all smacking does is teach the kid that i'm bigger that you so i can hit you. it dosnt actually teach your child a lesson, i never once learnt a lesson from my dad smacking me, i never thought to myself "i got a smack for doing such & such, i wont be doing that again". no i forgot all about what i had done wrong to get the smack because it hurt & all i could think about was the fact my dad just hit me & i started to resent him for it, he never hit my mum so why should he hit me?!

    3. any child of mine who likes to listen to rap and acts gangster style gets grounded harshly no t.v. or music for a week.

so your children cant experiment with styles of fashion & music, you cant just leave them to figure out who they are for themselves & your gona punish them for it, what do you want, little mini clones of you?

    4. any male child of mine who is caught wearing girly pants and likes to act like an emo gets the same punishment as #3 also gets new Boy jeans.

    same as number 3

    5. any child of mine will be put through labor and not just doing the dishes! or the simple stuff like doing the laundry or taking the garbage out.

i find your rules a bit harsh to tell you the truth, yeah every child should have to do chores, they have to learn to take care of the environment around them & take responsibility for mess & stuff. but come on kids need to be kids too & do there own stuff, kids are growing up too fast these days, they should be out playing, exploring & learning not staying home & cleaning, doing hard labour cus mum & dad cant be bothered.

Children are just miniature human beings. Why do people find that so hard to get?
Act responsibly and they will too. Treat them as less than human, dominate them, abuse your position as adult, and you risk them growing up with a warped, ugly vision, and sometmes the desire to hurt people themselves (as is obviously the case with you, if you really are being serious) Why on Earth would you want to show your children only how to be cruel, how to take out frustration on others, how to abuse power?

Show children the world is beautiful and they will respect it, and respect you

i totally agree with that. my parents didnt swear, i dont swear. i didnt bring the vocabulary i learnt outside in my home, simply cuz i could see that my parents' had the right attitude.
if u care about your kids and if u do the right thing in your life, your children will imitate u. maybe they'll still do stupid things and rebel cuz they dont wanna be as square as u, but in the end they'll always keep your moral principles in mind, and i think that thats what matters.

corny dogs! there's only one way to make sure a child has respect for others and you at the same time! and nothing says hello better then the back of a paddle. also i'm not a freshmen i'm a sophmore.

children may be miniature human beings yes act responsible and they might as well but that still doesn't count for all the things they hear and see on t.v. and then there's all the other adults they'll be around what about them? there's no safe way to protect your child. so thats why they invented the paddle.

I don't think that anything in the world has as much influence on a kid, then what happens in the family. Neither other adults, kids in school, nor TV has as much influence, as in what happens in the family. TV is something that can be talked about, that can be explained. But violent parenting is something that stays forever in a kid, as you can see.....

fwiw, my kids know that some people use bad language, there's bad language in books and songs that we are allowed to read/sing. there's bad language in movies that we see. the rule in our house is that if you start using those words, we stop reading those books, listening to that music and watching those movies. plain and simple.

you have awhile to go (as long as you practice safe sex that is) till you get to bring up a child. take advantage of your high school years to take some child development/psyc classes. sounds like you really need them.

also, ime thus far, i am the prime example to my children, whatever i do, they do, regardless of what other children and adults do. i am there mother and they want to please me because i respect them as human beings, and, they want to be like me :)
