It looks like the Democrats have taken over the House of Representatives and whilst the Senate is still too close to call, they may well be able to wrest power from the Republicans there too. But the question is, will it make a difference? Can the Democrats save the world from the foolish crusades of the Bush administration, or will it be more of the same?

Don't really have my finger on the pulse of american politics but i would imagine that apart from all the rhetoric there parties are as similar as ours are nowadays, they'll argue finer points but really don't see how they can do much about their position in foreign affairs.

Only if the Democrats start being Democrats and grow some spines. If the American general public gave them a good kicking towards the direction they should be going, I believe they can make a differece.

It is good for a change although I doubt this will mean the withdrawel of troops.

The Democrats have taken the Senate too and Rumsfeld's head has rolled. Bush has been given a clear kick up the ass for his failures in Iraq. Shame they couldn't have done it two years earlier when it might have made a difference. But then Americans have always been a bit slow haven't they? I don't hold out much hope for change with the Democratic revival, but at least Bush's last two years in office will not be such an easy ride....

Democrats have called for a discussion on the phased withdrawal of troops from Iraq. However small, it's a start....

i'm thoroughly disgusted with the parties. i honestly don't think ANYTHING would be different had what-his-face been elected over monkey-face. and they can't just go withdrawing troops all quickly and shit, that'll just make shit even worse for iraqis. it's all a cluster-fuck. this shit is what happens when everyone is in agreement: we get the war in iraq, we get the patriot act, and all the other fun little things that don't happen when there's legal gridlock. all these fuckers want to get to congress to make new laws and tinker around with shit just to get their names in the history book. like we need more laws. and lets not forget how many dems agreed to vote FOR the patriot act. they always believe, for some stupid reason, that they can take power back from the government, but once the government reaches that high water mark, they don't ever go back. they're just grabbing hands, gimme gimme gimme.
