... to other's ideas of what deserves to be deemed important and real? this forum, our dreams, our thoughts, the books we read, school, drug-induced experiences, whatever... some things that make up our lives aren't considered valid enough to count... all that is allowed to count is the time you spend producing, collecting, working towards something. nobody knows the thoughts in our heads so they assume there are none, so while we sit alone we might have a million epiphanies but it doesn't count because we're doing "nothing". we're being lazy because we're not pushing around enough mass, moving enough particles through space... "how do you do just nothing?" "it's when grown-ups say, 'what are you going to do?' and you say, 'oh, nothing', and then you go out and do it." "i like that. let's do it all the time."
some of the most productive periods of time in my life happen when I am meditating. Only thing moving is my stomach in and out as I breathe. Stillness is also a path to enlightenment. it doesn't "count" only if you believe other people's opinions of life (and you for that matter) are more valuable than your own. Is that quote from Calvin and Hobbes? Or the movie "Love me if you Dare?" It sounds so familiar but I can't place it.
we definitely conform. there is no such thing as original anymore. it's ridiculous. show me something original. has everythign truly been done???! is conformity perhaps because we envy others' ideas such & wish we would of thought of them? or because they are so interesting? gosh, there is just so much to say & i have nto the words to express them. hopefully someone else will say something better & i can fed off that...talk about no originality
you're unique...just like everyone else. we're all conformist to some degree we can never be completely original w/ anything, take clothing for example, even if you create a new design of a shirt you still didn't come up w/ the whole"shirt idea" your self...bad example
If I tell other people that conforming is wrong, then I'm trying to get them to conform to non-conformity. Just do whatever, the only thing everyone should conform to is not hurting other people. No violence, or killing. Other than that, whatever.
Hun, you aren't original. On the other hand, your value as a human being isn't dependent on originality.
the quote is from winnie the pooh... i didn't mean comformity in the sense of not trying to be original, but pretending that you don't do certain things or that things you do are not as important as they are because it seems like nobody else is giving them the weight you do. we are already unique, we don't have to try. we just have to let ourselves love the things that are important to us. you really love jumping around on one foot and screaming "WANALANALOO" or something, you do it, but you don't do it in public or let anyone know how much you love it, because you're comforming to propriety... so someone says, "what did you do yesterday?", you say "oh, i did some homework, i cooked some pasta, i cleaned my room" or whatever. you don't say, "i jumped around screaming wanalanaloo on one foot and then thought about grasshoppers." we're selective about what "really" happens...
definitely, no it wasn't bad. simple is good if you were addressing me, let me just say don't i know it! who is? & you are right about our value true as well. man, now i'm having an incredibly hard time! i think i'll go w/ that; it doesn't matter were you being sarcastic?:&
Hit the nail on the head there Isn't everyone trying to be original? So doesn't that mean we are conforming to what everyone else is trying to do? Who cares if we are original, as long as it is what we really want to do and we aren't just doing things to fit in?
