I've been saying for years that I was going to make my own underwear because I can never find any that fit right. I finally made some. I had one pair of underwear that fit about right so I copied those. I have since made a few more pairs and perfected my pattern. Plus underwear is fairly expensive and falls apart easily. I double stitched mine and made sure they were rugged. They're just a front, a back and I stretched and stitched some lingerie elastic around the legs and waist. Plus I like to tell people I make my own underwear [IMG]

Thank you all! They are very comfy. I'm going to cut up my old shirts and turn them into underwear. Have to try to make some of those camisoles with the lining bra thing for winter. I love them, but they never make them long enough. If I had super long ones I could tuck them in and keep extra warm.

Very good idea. I've been thinking more and more about that lately, especially after reading this the other day. Now I don't want to buy Hanes products anymore, or any commercially mass-produced clothing (which for us isn't an issue except for underwear and Ian's work clothes). Guess I've gotta start somewhere, and soon we'll have handmade-by-us- EVERYTHING! :D

Wow! I've been thinking about buying some new undies (going out of town for a long while without access to laundry and need to add some more pairs) but maybe I'll just give some old t-shirts a new job.

huh, you're just like me :) I also plan for years to sew my own underwear but haven't done yet.

Hope mine will be as perfect as yours ;) Very good work!

One hint for sewing your underwear, which I found out after I washed them. Stretch and sew the elastic on before you sew the seams up, I did it after. That was the ends of the elastic are encased in the seam. That elastic is not very rugged, if any piece of the ends are hanging out it unravels.
Mine are fuzzy where I stitched it together, but I'll just do a satin stich over them a few times.
