I wasn't really sure where to post this, so I decided to here :)

I decided a couple days ago that I really want some dreads! So I was planning to have my cousin help me do it this weekend when I go see her, the only problem : I don't have time to order any stuff online from dreadheadhq.com or anything liek that. Do any of you guys know if dreadheadhq or any other dread stuff sells their products in stores? I know it'll be pretty hard to tell me since you're all so spread out...so this is kind of pointless to ask haha... But I'd really like to do it this weekend cause I'm excited and don't know when I'll see my cousin again. Or let's say that I go to a store looking for residue-free shampoo. Will I be able to look on the bottle and have it tell me that? I guess what I'm trying to ask is - can I find the stuff I need without ordering from that site?

    Thanks for any help :)

And one more question- I'm sort of nervous about my hair because it's kind of short. How short will chin-length hair normally get after it's dreadlocked?

firstly, YOU DO NOT NEED THE DREADHEAD HQ STUFF!!!! There are two ways to do them:

Au natural: Leave your hair and tear them into strands when they mat (you can still wash them).

or Backcomb: Get a metal dog comb and comb backwards, instead of wax, use aloe vera gel! And instead of lockin' accelerator, use salt water!

    ^ agree

i did mine 7 weeks ago. you dont need all that stuff, infact it only inhibits the locking process. try knottylocks...a runboard forum... everything is right there, compliments of many dreadlock veterans who know what they are talking about....

i also use dr bronners...an enexpensive delight. the tea tree dr bronners liquid shampoo as well as tea tree oil will help keep the bugs away among other things... the peppermint and lavender are great. almond smells really good. you have alot to choose from.

ah, the locking process will definetly cause your hair to shrink as you hairs knott and tighten. you will experience looping and unraveling and all kinds of crazy things but these are good signs that your hair is on its way. no bands = they just stop the hair from being able to move and movement is what allows the hair to knott. if you must, use a bead. bands can get stuck adn melt inside your dreadlocks :(
