I bloody hate it. Mobile phones have a lot to answer for. I don't know how people seem to find it easier to read or write in text talk. When people send me messages in that debased new language, I have to spend a good thirty seconds just translating it. Fair enough, not too much of a problem, but when people then use it on MSN as well, or in emails, it's too much to handle. I often end up blocking people on MSN for the hienous crime of representing themselves as slobbering two year olds with poor linguistic skills. Honestly, I think the human race will become divided along evolutionary lines between the intelligent/sophisticated on the one hand, and the text talking Morlocks on the other. Does anyone love text talk? Does anyone hate it as much as I do? Your thoughts, in English please....

I agree wholeheartedly, nothing irritates me more than people reducing a full sentence "Pray tell me, fine fellow, what activities you are currently engaged in?" to 4 letters "wuu2".

    Argh!

Take it that means 'what you up to?' More annoying is when words that have taken centuries to develop are debased in an instant by some wise ass kids who think they know better. Bak? Bak? Is it so hard to type the letter c? Man, Sesame Street was lost on those guys....

I welcome developments and evolution of language, and sometimes txt talk can be really funny and creative.

I do agree though that it obviously cannot replace proper English for communicating ideas precisely and quickly. It's like anything, its over-use is what's bad about it, but used in the right context and in moderation it can add something to the language.

I offer this series of pictures as an example of a funny and creative use of text talk:)

It is handy in some places, annoying in others.

u, ur, r and RU are useful in a text message, but other that that TXT TLK sucks balls.

Exactly. In Britain they want to force all immigrants to learn English as a requirement for entering the country. I think the worst txt talk offenders should also learn English, or be thrown out of the country....
