I can't live with it anymore, its overwhelming. I try everything, fiber, water, fruit, and it always comes back with a vengeance. It takes a toll on your overall well being and health, it wears you down from the inside out. My doc tells me some people just have a slow digestive tract and that fiber doesn't always fix the problem. How can a doctor say theres no cure or theres no solution, thats nuts. What am I to do, like I said, its probably the worst feeling you will ever experience and I always feel ashamed afterwards for some reason, disgusted. I better get prepared for the next episode...
:leaving: Constipation? Try Docusate, it's available in your pharmacy without a prescription. Ask your doctor about it, I'm surprised he hasn't recommended it to you. (It's what I use) Oh, you're in Canada, maybe it's not available I don't know about Canada. I would say ask your doctor. Bustramp
Oh, thats a stool softener from what google told me. Yes I need a daily regiment of those which would probably eliminate the bad part of constipation, yes I think I may look into that. Good idea. Thanks.
I take 1 pill (docusate) a day. I take it after I eat breakfast. If you take it before, when you eat it'll make you go faster. Make sure you're near a toilet because you won't be able to hold it. Takes about an hour to be effective. Bustramp
I'd work on figuring out the cause of the problem, rather than treating the symptoms with laxatives. Constipation is a common sign of food allergies. Something I never realized until it happened to my daughter, because my allergies cause the opposite problem. I strongly suggest you start eliminating all binding foods from your diet. That means no bananas, no rice, no dairy, no applesauce, none of those foods people eat when they have the runs. I'd especially focus on the dairy, as people should not be drinking the milk that is made for baby cows anyway. I'd suggest you eat lots of loosening foods, peaches, pears, apricots, peas and beans, grapes, raisins, prunes, and such. Make sure you are drinking about a gallon of water every day. If there are particular foods you crave to eat, work on cutting back. Wheat was the main culprit for my child, and it turned out she can't have any gluten at all.
mamaboogie is right, and you also want to change your lifestyle, rather than just eating fiber when you get constipated, make sure you eat enough EVERYDAY. I've always found that hummus keeps me going. It's not just what you eat though, it's also about exercise and sleep, and moods. Proper exercise everyday helps, a strict sleeping schedule, and stress reduction. Also, take into account what you ARE eating that might make you constipated, I find that apples, and rice especially bind me up... try to find what you're eating that might screw it up for you.
OH, and certain medications too, can screw up your digestive patterns...you should talk to your doctor about that, if you are on any medication.
I have IBS, which screws up my pooping cycles. Has your doctor considered the possibility of IBS? It may be something to look into. The main thing with it is that certain foods cause either constipation or diarrehia or both at the same time (which sucks!) Like others have said, the best thing to do with that is analyze what foods give you trouble and stay away from those. I have to stay away from dairy or junk food (like fast food) or else I'm constipated. Good foods for me are sprouts, veggies in general, and olive oil. My mom has IBS and lettuce gives her diarrhea, so for every person, it's different. Peace and love
Out of all of my medical knowledge I know more about constipation than many lol - I have a autonomic neuropathy and part of it is constipation really bad, like i dont even go without any meds!!!! Nasty nasty stuff all i can suggest is senna, you need something to move the stools not so much soften it, you can try aleo vera power from health shops but you need loads of it x any thing else you wanna know ask away x
It can't be IBS because IBS is usually diarrhea and I haven't had diarrhea for about 2 years. Its just straight up constipation time and time again.
IBS is NOT usually diarrhea. IBS can range from bouts of constipation, to bouts of diarrhea, it is different in every individual. Some just experience diarreah, others just experience constipation, and others may experience long periods of both. IBS is more theory, a general diagnoses to better assist dealing with a digestive system that is "touchy" That's exactly what it is, is a touchy digestive system, and from what you describe... I'd definitely say yours is touchy. Regardless of whether anyone tells you have IBS, the suggestions they give you should be about the same, and you could pick up any book on IBS and still benefit for it. Truth is, many of the tips for patients with IBS are actually healthy examples for ANYONE, but people with IBS have to strictly follow these things so that they don't go through what you're going through. I can give you a few quick tips: Rice is very binding for most people, and I would avoid it as much as possible if you have problems with constipation. Exercise is great, but you also have to gauge WHEN you're exercising depending on when you're eating if you have a touchy digestive system.... I have a book that suggests when the best times to exercise are, which I can look up for you later and let you know; It is also important to try and sit up straight with good posture for 1-2 hours after a meal, and do NOT eat before bedtime. I always find that stress is the main cause of MY constipation. I ALWAYS experience constipation in surroundings that I am foreign to, which is a major stressor for anyone; like if you go on a vacation, and get constipated, it's a good sign that you're probably one that reacts to stress that way. I find, that having a routine once a day, to relax, and drink some coffee or other hot drink, and read for about an hour, helps to keep me regular. I do this every morning before work, and I haven't had much problems going since. I hear ginger is also good for constipation, but I myself, haven't tried it. Many people with "poop problems" have generally sensitive bodies; treat your body with care on that note.
What I really need is something that is extremely embarrasing and uncomfortable, a barium enema. I'm not going to give the definition but its easy enough to find out on google or something. After that procedure the doctors can tell right away whats wrong with your intestines/bowels, a blockage, a scist, etc.
Hey dude, okay.. here's the thing. My mom has the same freakin problem, and it's annoying. So she came to my house once, and I gave her natures tea. I kept saying "take the bag out it's been five minutes" this woman will go DAYS Without crappin. She didn't listen, she had the craps that night. So get the natures tea, it will help you go. :-D
