"The kingdom of god is inside you, And all around you. Not, in buildings of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and you will find me, Lift a stone, and i am there." Occam
Not pretty truth An agnostic such as occam is says the same thing If god is..Split a piece of wood and you will find me. Lift a stone and i am there Do you not understand what this means? A reconcilliation between theism and agnosticism. Well occams' agnosticism Agnostics never said there was no god. But theists drove them from heaven. Occam
depends puely on your perspective of death, i suppose. a supernova from the proper distance is just yet another gorgeous light show.
you know, coming from you two, i'm SURPRISED at the deliberate misunderstanding of the implied (edit) question "so the truth can't be pretty?" after all, i didn't say all truth is pretty, just that it CAN be pretty. wow. can't believe y'all let that past.
mynameiskc, I actually agree with what you said, "The truth isnt always pretty", but all truth is prettier than an ugly lie like religion. The ugliness of Religion is much worse than any oozing pus filled arse-boil
actually, i was fucking around because i know i stated my first question incorrectly, my second statement was totally full of shit. i don't think our collective senses of humor mesh quite right. anyway, my whole statement on "pretty" was in that watson or crick sense of "pretty." when asked how they'd know they found the structure of dna or whatnot, one of those guys responded "it'll be pretty." something like that. truth can be pretty, truth can be beautiful. it's only a matter of perspective.
LOL The atheists here are a TRIP! Occam's over here referring to himself like he's someone else. Oh, and if you're not careful Columbo will pull out an Eminem quote! He's got a ton in his back pocket!!! Where oh where are the Atheists that hurl deep science at you to make you think!?! WHERE!?!
We call ourselves Christians and that is why we dont have this passage in our Scriptures or follow the teachings in this 'gospel'. Its not really a 'gospel' anyways but a collection of sayings, attributed to Jesus in the poorly named 'Gospel of Thomas'. Certainly its a 'Gnostic Gospel' in that it bends towards these sorts of 'god is everything in everything' and a few other 'sayings' which indicate Gnostic concepts. But anyways, the main thing is that its crap. Contains some real beauties like: "Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females do not deserve life." Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven." About as antchristian as you can get people. But look, it could be that the 'gospel' of Thomas (really just a list of 'sayings') may very well have some right and some wrong. It certainly seems to have a number of 'word-for-word' quotes (or darn close) to the established Gospels. but, Even if it quotes from some authoratative Gospel it certainly doesnt get to become one. Adding wierd amateurish shit doesnt help either. Heck, Im not so sure the Gnostics even used this crap book in THEIR services and teachings.
EP So wisdom is only 'there' if it's called a 'gospel' by 'authorities'. And weird amaturish shit ..like what jesus said. doesnt help what? for he was an amature or he would not of ended up nailed to a tree saying "father, why have you foresaken me" Occam
Yes, its a reliable Gospel when its written by an Authority. Namely, someone who was actually a part and parcel of Jesus Ministry. A book of sayings attributed to Thomas and full of Gnostic bullshit and things Jesus would never say is, Well, Not Wisdom. But by all means you feel free to tell me all about how your 24 year old daughter will have to be miraculously changed into a man so she can enter heaven. Becasue women cant otherwise. Seriously, its never ending amazement to me how many 'experts' can happily go online either doubting the authority of the Gospels (the real ones) or gobbling up stupid rumours (ie 'they were written 100 year after bla bla) and yet, EASILY and without even so much as a doubt in their minds lap up total acceptance of the shitty Nag Hamadi Gnostic 'gospels' like they were...well.. like they were the gospel truth. Stupid. Oh wait.. these are the same people who come on here and think 'The Davinci Code' was based on real historical events and incidents. Wonderful.
EP so jesus never said this or something very close to it? The kingdom of god is inside you, And all around you. Not, in buildings of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and you will find me, Lift a stone, and i am there." Occam proposes you care very little what jesus said. But care a great deal in seeing that the organisation you have invested x years in, is not shown to be the edifice of lies that it is. For if it is,, you must face the realisation that you have been duped. And your ego wont allow that. How could YOU have been wrong? Not possible. For YOU KNOW the truth. All else is lies. The church has you well and truley by the balls. Occam cares more of what jesus said than you do. And you know it. Occam Hasta la vista [baby] Make any post you want after this.. all are pointless unless you trying to 'swing' people towards your position. Does'nt not help that there are 4,200 registered religions And ONE science. 8 out of 10 believe science speaks the truth. [as it sees it] There may be a god. And jesus was a wise man. But there is no hell lol.
No He did not. You are probably thinking of a very antichristian 'saying' made up by some Gnostic idiot about two centuries AD. It goes like this in the Coptic: "Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am with him." ...Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there." Lets put it this way.. if Jesus really did say something like this - it would be the wierdest fucking thing in the history of the fucking planet wouldnt it? Wouldnt it? Why am I asking you - you are almost certainly fucked up on weed and couldnt tell the difference between mystical antichristian gnosticism or the most basic Judeo-Christian doctrines. You demonstrated that already. Tip: Stop mistaking fictional books like 'Celestine Prophecy' or 'Davinci Code' or movies like 'Stigmata' with REALITY. Thats a tip for you, try it once you 'come down'.
ElProx...What you're doing is taking a statement that's emotionally and politically-charged by today's standards (as are many in the canonical texts)... Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females do not deserve life." Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of Heaven." ...out of its context and making it central to your argument that this whole Gospel of Thomas is "Gnostic Bullshit." How many times have I heard Bible-thumpers, yourself likely included, say on this board: "you can't take a particular verse out of context". Dude, you're getting out of control again...play by the rules. It dosn't help your presentation to accuse others of being "fucked up on weed", either. Takes one to know one, perhaps?
It is out of context. Thats the entire problem with the 'gospel' of Thomas and one of the reasons Christianity does not believe in that 'saying' or accept it as a saying of Jesus. The entire book itself is Gnostic text which is made up of just 'sayings'. Out of context 'sayings' attributed to Jesus. Its not part of the Bible, its not Christian, its never been part of Christianity and would be considered antichristian on more than a few levels.
