It might be a little late to post this. I just read The Bean Trees as a novel study for my English class. I was wondering if anyone else has.... if so, I need to write an essay on either loyalty or determination and I'm stuck! Massive writer's block! I also need to do 2 assignments, analyzing the symbolism in landscape, animals or in religion...I need to pick 2 of them is what I mean. I am so stuck right now!
I read this a long time back, so I have lost most of the names, but here goes: Kentucky girl shows loyalty to Turtle, the roomie to her ex hubby, and the tire shop woman to the refugees. and the refugee couple to Turtle and her "mama."
If you go to websites like sparknotes you can find lots of information about symbolism and maybe even some good quotes for your loyalty/determination assignment. There's a lot of websites like sparknotes so just look around, take pieces from all of them, and put it in your own voice and you should be fine. Hope that helps!
thanks Bradely....actually, I have been using sparknotes a TON as well as cliff's notes. My english teacher, however, is really familiar with all those sites and has them memorized. She also says that they are too generalized (her favourite word) and now that she knows that I use those sites, she is looking out for ANY ideas that I have that are anything similar to what they have on there. I mean, i don't have a problem with symbolism stuff, it's just that I feel like I have to re read the whole book inorder to find all the info that I need and I can't read it over, there's not enough time. So, I have been skimming and kinda bull shitting my way through some of the assignments.
