Is anyone else phyced for this movie to come out. this is going to be amazing because its by Richard Linklater and it will show people what their really eating at Mickey D's. Check it out
I read the book and loved it...I cannot wait to see the film. I read the book for my contemporary history class over the summer and we read in one of the newspapers (NY Times, I believe) that the meat industry was trying to keep the filmmaker from releasing it in the states. FYI, the meat industry is pretty powerful and have LOTS of money, so we debated on whether or not it would ever actually be released here. Luckily it will be...and I hope it is as well documented as the book was.
I love richard linklater. all his shit is great. i didnt know this was his latest project though. sounds interesting.
My SIL has been telling me that I need to read this book. She says it is the BEST she's read in years. But seeing as I've now gone veggie AND gluten-free there's almost nothing I can eat at a fast-food place anyway... so I'm thinking maybe I can skip this one love, mom
I'm not really interested. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but it's Nothing New. Maybe a few formerly-unconcerned citizens will watch and be touched, but for me(and you), it's preaching to the choir. I can do without more propaganda for either side.
marcy, read it. there is a bunch of how corps misuse workers and a move to abolish a federal minimum wage (courtesy of our own Rep. Joel Hefley) Like the jungle, there is a strong current or workers rights here.
The movie is really good. There are a few scenes that hurt to watch...it doesn't gloss over how the cow turns into a burger, but i'm still glad I went to see it. Very worth watching (even Avril's Lavigne's role can be tolerated). ooh, and it made my meat eating friend give up burgers, which is a plus
i think it got released here on either the 26th or 29th of October....i saw it last Tuesday week.... i don't know how that happened either.
yeah, it's filmed in a kind of grainy, doco style but is a fiction film. Nevertheless, it hits home as if it was 'reality'
yeah but I think its very important that we remember that it is NOT real. You know, dont want it turning out like the Davinci code...
well, DVC started a LOT of debate on issues... would it be so bad for people to discuss what we do to animals and our fellow human animals?
yeah, i agree. It's hard to explain what I mean by how it hits home without spoiling it for people who haven't seen it...but I think drumminmama is right - even a fictional film is a good way to prompt debate. Because, even though the movie is fiction they didn't make up the fact that meat comes from animals that are killed. Although most people know that they often choose to ignore it and in films and on TV it is usually glossed over - this film doesn't shy away from showing that animals do die in meat factories...
Totally stoked for it to come out. I almost never go to movies in theaters but I might just have to this time.
