so ive heard alot of this and that about palm rolling

    THE NEGATIVE:
i heard it does more damage than good, causing breaking and only temporary results. i have also heard that it disrubts the locking process because all of those delicate knotts that have formed are moved out of place and the hair has to start those natural knotts over again because ultimatly the hair takes its own course.

    THE POSITIVE:
ive heard that it really works for some people. that doing it in the shower while washing, or along with aloe mix etc can really benifit the shape of your dreads?

i have not tried it but would like to know.....

what are your feelings on this from personal experience? who prefers to just leave their hair alone and let it work itself out? who prefers the opposite.

    peace and love :D

Well, having had my locks for so long I haven't really worried about it for a while... I mostly didn't really worry about it while they locked up either. I pretty much just left my hair to do it's thing, other than washing it. I had a couple of friends who'd always want to play with it whenever I saw them, so I think once or twice a week in the beginning someone was palmrolling them. After a couple of months I requested some space to allow them to do their own thing. So if it helps at all, my dreads are the result of VERY curly hair, a wee bit of palmrolling in the beginning, and the hard work of Mother Nature herself. :)

thank you for sharing. i just wash and would prefer not to mess with them
i ask because the marjority of them are forming flat and wide like a pancake and i was curious if this would work itself out.

    will it?

if not then it is no big deal but i was just curious.

    thanks! :D

Palm rolling is too much work. I used to do it but after about a minute my arms would hurt. I Just gave up and stopped rolling mine and they are tight as.

def true. I went through that frustration with my first set. I jsut wanted to do something to accelerate it or whatever and eventualy it jsut pissed me off and I stopped. I havent done anything at all to mine really. Just wash with Dr Bronners Tea Tree Oil soap every now and then. And also randomly get an old shampoo bottle and fill it up with a mix of salt, lemon juice, tea tree oil, and aloe. But I've only done that maybe twice and I've been letting them lock for around half a year now. Most of my head is in dreads except for a two small sections and most of the hair like at the bottom of the back of my head. The tips ave a long way to go before they lock up but I dont really mind.

Well, doing it the way I did, I came out with about half-and-half... at first when I noticed it kinda bugged me that some of the were flat like that, but I really like them now. I like the variety of it especially. Some are flat, some are round, some have blunt tips, and some have this ubersoft babyfine hair at the ends that's fun to play with (and the fact that I play with it is probably the reason that last inch or so hasn't dreaded!)... I say just do as much or as little as you feel like and you'll love the result in the end! :D

palmrolling helped my child's dreads look neater in the beginning stages when they were getting flat and crooked. This was a very big deal, because her Daddy wasn't big on the idea of allowing her to choose for herself to have dreads. All it's good for is cosmetic reasons, and those are good enough if you want neater looking dreads. It's your hair, do what you want with it.
