Was wondering if anybody here makes music compilations complete with own graphic design for the front and who keeps a volume of various favourite hits year after year? I find that creating compilations of all the favourite tracks of the year help because I then find it easier to listen to old stuff without ploughing through tons of cds. Also what designs have you created for your covers and have you given it a particular name or do you just number them from one onwards? Here is a provisional design for the next year. Also I want a poll for the best cover design that is above you.
man got loadsa complimations and do me own covers (some great rare music from imesh that can be burnt off easily ) dont tell anyone tho (its a secret ).
Got a few jazzy designs for next volumes. Using more retro theme with building blocks for example squares and circles and hexagons. I feel the striking red lines over black background gives it a sweet feeling of the 80's. Here is an example for one of Spring 2007 cover sleeve for my ever increasing compilations. Since being able to burn cds, my life has become so much easy as I can also compress music into wav or mp3. mp3 discs hold far greater content. Take a flirt at this
Of course I add the text later using WordArt on microsoft word and then add a juicy texture to the main name of the compilations. Listings for 6th compilation. Nope. What do you think of my provisional track listing>? And also my next cover design? Creative or simplistic?
Used to tape the charts off the radio, colured the little inlay cardboard with felts. Now I just play random on my pc, haven't catalogued it at all.
I used felts when I was using audio cassette. Had no paint programme or indeed that free downloadable photo editing kit. I was wondering what anyone thought of my provisional track listings?
Can't say I'm familiar with most of it I'm afraid, quite often nowadays know a song but not its title nor who performed it.
When I make compliations for my friends I always spend hours drawing custom covers, or even for the CD's I straight copy. I don't know why I enjoy doing that so much, but I really do I usually spend my boring English and Math classes drawing them, or maybe in art, of course! Then I like to take permenant markers and draw on the cd's themselves... They make a really good gift when I'm broke!!
Usually do them more on paint and photo editing software. Try to keep them simplified at the moment but later on there is room for more exotic art. I go by my current software capabilities. of course there is a skill in choosing your tracks. As each song comes under a genre as does style and tempo, one needs to put them into appropriate order to promote a more professional transition. For example, I wouldn't put Robbie Williams Rudebox before or even after Matt Willis Hey Kid or U2 and Greenday's The saints are coming. I would put it after Justin Timberlake sexyback because it has that kind of theme which seem to go. Sometimes one has to preplan, listening to your favourite tracks before you burn any discs. Once you burn them, you cannot re record unless you get re writable ones.
I do that sometimes, but a lot of the time I make my compilations completely random. I like to do this becuase when I'm on long bus rides travelling with band, I can listen to a few songs that are kinda mellow, but then have something come out of nowhere to keep me awake. I do make a lot of jazz compilations, going by main instrument, and I like to make my own "best of's" because I find htat most actual best ofs out there suck...
