reno, sparks, pyramid lake, lake tahoe, elko, ely, even ruby valley, then walker lake and down by minden/gardnerville are parts of nevada i'm a little more familiar with. lived in eagle valley out by pioche part of one summer working on a core drill. the other part of that summer, still on the core drill, was the east side of that hill from eurika.

i did get down to tonopah and las vegas a couple of times. tonopah just passing through. las vegas i had a girl friend from their once upon a time i met going to unr in reno. didn't much care for vegas. reno is wierd too, but unr was cool and so was the food. this was back in the early 70s though. worked at harrah's there in reno in the coin room for a while.

dad and i took the exit to jessup a couple of times and fallowed the jeep trail up the wash and collected a little of the opalite you could see in formation in the side of the arroyo there.

jessup was a cool real ghost town, not a museum one like boadey, until some one burnt it down, whoever whyever did that, really upset both of us, but i've never heard much about how or why it happened.

well all this was "a few years back" and i've lived in oregon for ten years then back in califonia, not too far from where i grew up for most onto twenty years since then.

I lived in Reno for 2 years. Well, I guess technically it was Sparks. Fourth St. close to the hills. Worked at Western Village for a while and then at the MGM Campground. I still remember when the wind blew just right, you would get the smell of spicy dog food eminating from the combo of the Purina and Spice Island factories. I did not like Reno much, but it was better than Vegas mainly for two reasons. One, Reno had four seasons compared to the two that we have here in Vegas(summer, and not summer). Second, I had a shoebox full of Cal-Neva drink tokes. Remember those red plastic coins? Never had to pay for a beer for the two years I lived there. Oh well, now I have been stuck in Vegas for the past 27 years, minus those two years I was in Reno. Wish I could get out of here and go to the Pacific northwest.

Well, I have a corner lot with a 3 bedroom house with 1300 sq ft, two car garage, and built in swimming pool. House is valued at $225,000. If you can match that, I will trade with you instantly. I want out of Vegas.

Shit, i KNEW there was something I liked about you, Zilla.
Yep! Some very beautiful countryside up there. In fact, an episode of the TV show CSI was filmed in The Tahoe area.

Well, I remember Tahoe back in the 70's. There was so much public access to the lake. But just try now. There are only about 3 or 4 spots now where you can get to the lake, the rest has been taken up by private property. Houses have been built all around the lake and most of the accesible land is now private property. And they wonder why the lake is losing it's clarity and becoming polluted. It is all the construction and the population and the people with their oil spewing jet skis. The State of Nevada screwed up royaly 30 years ago or even longer. They should have made Lake Tahoe a State park. He!!, even the US Government should have protected it by making it a National Park. Oh well, the damage has been done and the lake will continue to suffer from it. Such a shame.

Sorry to hear it's not as beautiful as it once was.
I've got a couple desktop themes for XP on Tahoe.
I printed out the wallpaper pics and they hangin on my wall.
But my favorite tree is pine anyway. Yeah. "State Park" woulda been NICE!

Well, there is something we have in common, pine that is. In fact, I like pine trees so much that my house is surrounded by 7 pine trees, 5 of which I planted myself.

Well, about Northern Nevada, one thing I like is every year, up in Ely, the Rotary Club there sponsors an ice fishing contest up at Cave Lake. Cave Lake is a beautiful spot in the summer and a great place for ice fishing in the winter. My brother and I have participated in this contest for 3 years now. :<))
