i just bought "in the wake of poseidon" and like it, BUT if there's an album with more songs like pictures of a city, or cat food, then i need it. i want that crazy jazzy, gritty stuff if it's out there. long songs are fine, but i prefer at least some high energy sections. thanks for any opinions or help

The first one "In the court of the Krimson King" is what the sound of in thewake of posieden came from so you should get it. It has 20th century schizoid man on it. awesome.

The album with songs closest to Cat Food would be Lizard. In part, because the same pianist performs in both albums (Keith Tippet), and the lineup is very similar, except of course for Greg Lake, who left the band after Poseidon. You can also try Island. After that the King's format turned to longer, more complex songs, creating, in my opinion, their greatest work in Red, Lark'sTongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black

I'd start off with either In the Court of the Crimson King or Red, seeing as that they're the band's two most accessible albums.

However, my favorite KC album is Larks Tongues in Aspic, followed closely by Red.

Id definatly start out with "Court". The 68-69 and 73-74 lineup are great.

It's so hard to choose a "favorite" King Crimson album, they're all so good. Long ago I decided that my favorite Crimson album is the one I'm listening to at the time. Eventually, most of the King's fans end up owning them all, just like I do.

In the Court of the Crimson King, "an uncanny masterpiece," as Pete Townshend said.
