I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I have a wool diaper cover that has some major stains. Does anyone have any hints on how to get stains out of wool? And if I can't get them out, and decide to just dye it, will the color be screwy because of the stains?
It depends on the type of stains and how long the stains have been there. If they've been there for a while and/or if they're oil based, they may be virtually impossible to get out. Otherwise I think there are a few choices... Give it a good scrub with either castille soap or a brand-name spray spot removal, then throw it in your regular wash. If that doesn't work, try to get it dry cleaned to see where that'll take ya. If all those don't work, you may be stuck with a stained wool diaper cover, so you may have to go out and get a new one. As far as dying it is concerned, again, whether or not the dye would cover the stain would have to depend on the stain itself. Give it a thorough clean, see what you can get out with that.... And I suppose a little experimentation couldn't hurt.... You won't know if you don't try.
I ended up trying dawn dish, because its the strongest cleaner I own! I have been using Dawn to strip my diapers, so I actually have something strong in the house. The stain looks a lot better. Its from dirt, I believe, cause Danny often wears just a prefold and wool cover and no pants, cause he is potty-learning (well, sort of). Its not affecting the cover at all, I just like things to be clean,ya know? I may kool-aid dye it because I have been wanting to do it anyway.
