Sorry for posting this in English, but I know that most of your English is much much better than my French and I wanted to be understood! I am struggling to re-learn the French I was taught (badly) at school as I love the language. I am visiting Amsterdam soon and have been trying to learn Dutch also. It made me think. UK schools don't put enough emphasis on languages in my opinion. How much emphasis are languages given in France? p.s. see my other post?: http://hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21391 Thankyou, Much Love Clairexxx
I'm gonna reply to this in English, cause I wanna be understood by you Claire, and well, you matter the most since your started this thread, and everyone will be able to understand me, I'm sure So, I love learning new languages... I already speak French (well, of course, my first language!), and I'm fluent in English (I speak it almost as well as French, if not better, sometimes!!!! lol) and I speak Spanish, I'm almost fluent in that languge too, but I'm bad at grammar, since I never learned it in school, I only learned it from living in Spain, from hearing people talk, and practicing it... that's why I'm taking some Spanish courses in college in September, I wanna improve it, cause speaking French, English and Spanish could open many doors to me, nowadays! To speak the 3 most spoken languages on Earth... that's useful I'd love to speak German, but... Nordic languages (Viking languages!) seem incredibly complicated to me... I couldn't lean Dutch, or Swedish, or Danish... etc. it's just too weird!! In French schools there's a HUGE emphasis on English learning. You HAVE to study it from age 8, and until graduation... at 14 you have to study another language, like Spanish or German (the most common ones).
Learning languages is cool. But in order to do so, you have to live in the country where the language is spoken. its the best, easiest way. For my part, my familly is from Argentina, so i speak fluent spanish, english and french, and know a bit about german (i'm learning) , italian and portugeese (as i work in a hotel with only foreign tourrist...) So if you need anything!! Id like to learn oriental language, such as Arab, Thai , japaneese or chineese. But it's so different!! I have both arab and chineese coleagues, so they are giving me some words and expressions.
My dear Claire... Even if we are able to learn a lot of languages in France (Schools ,Universities,Libraries, etc),the best way is always to learn it directly in the country, through the people you meet (a boy/girl friend is the fastest way!) ,through TV and novels. Of course ,if you get some premises at school first ,so easy when you are on the field! Be happy or stay happy!
Yes you are right... I hope to travel next winter, if all goes well Maybe I will learn easier then Love Clairexxx
