I love tofu, but whenever I eat it in more than a small amount it gives me the worst stomache aches for hours. I've eaten it several times, in hopes that my body will get used to the new(ish) food, but always the same results. I want to go vegan, and would plan on using tofu as a staple, but . . . Does anyone else have this reaction? Anything I can do?

    Love,
    Finny

I suggest taking an acidophelous supplement.

It's quite possible that your body is just having a difficult time breaking the tofu down...

Do you even know what tofu is? (i mean BEFORE you ask google) If you really knew youd realise your statement was ridiculous and made you look shamefully ignorant.
"Proper" meat would suggest that tofu is a kind of mock meat, like quorn or similar products.
It is infact something completely different.

    Idiot

all tofu is, is really processed soy beans thats been curdled(sp?) like cheese. the idea of it being a health food is not the most accurate thing. yeah its better for the planet to eat it, but its not always the best thing ever for the body.

you would be much better off with fermented foods like tempeh, or a good un-pasteurized organic miso...soy paste which makes excellent soup. i really enjoy the soy-less miso by south river since i don't think soy actually works for most people as a healthy food....

Do you get this reaction to all soy products (tempeh, miso, soy milk, etc) or just tofu? Maybe you should try some other soy foods and see what your reaction is. You can easily be vegan without tofu, but it certainly helps a lot for substitutions. You may want to try other meat alternatives like seitan.

soy allergies are quite common....most people just experience very mild symptoms..I would get tested for that...

alot of foods are inflamitory foods and can make your body feel all sorts of crazy ways...like i have Temporal mandibular joint disorder (jaw) and also scolosis..and if i eat alot of potatos and drink alot of caffeine or sugar or any other inflammitory food it causes my symptoms to increase.....
