in the interview from kfpa billy says that SCI's musical directions leaves him feeling out of place. I guess he means the fact that they have been moving away from bluegrassy folk stuff... well I guess all we can do is be thankful for the music SCI has gave us. He has to do what he has to do - but I just wish he didn't have to do it.

speakin of SCI. I'm not really a big fan, and I'm not familiar with a lot of their stuff. Not that I'm bashing then, I've jsut really never listened to a lot of their stuff. But, thery're playing two nights at the FOX this weekend and since its gonna be one of their last shows ever and I live in ATL, I figured I'd get myself a few tickets. So, I did, and I'm going! :) what should I expect?

I will be there as well. You should expect good things. especially inside the fox theatre. I'm a little worried however about what the lot has to offer this time around. and also I hope they play and sound more like the cheese of old and kang doesnt sound like his just ripping off trey as usual. last year I was happy. lots of bluegrass and very original jams.

Kang ripping of Trey, so this is the new cliche of the jamband world? damn picky heads....Kang is brilliant, and his take on the electric mandolin is brilliant....i'm a big fan of 2001 SCI and 2003 SCI.....something in particular about 2001 was just awesome....it had a great mix of grass and electronica style trance.....it was awesome....i've had cheese in my circle since 99, but they became one of ''my'' bands in 2001.....i just wish they would stick around. but i guarantee all you they will be back at some point. you don't play in a band for that long and just end it. they will probably take a couple year break and at some point have some dates.....

in liner notes for BOTWP, Kang is described as a Jerry-clone. And I can see him giving props where they are due.
I believe the entire band had a Phishy phase (that occured at the demise of Phish, some would say to get the traveling pack--we knew they were going to go somewhere)
There no one on the planet who knows the work of either who will say that Kang is NOT influenced by Trey.
not too many young jam guitarists who can say Trey didn't influence them, all a matter of degree.
Where does influence end and rip off begin? After Kang, I say. I hear so many other musicians and mutations in his style on mando and violin (does he still have the white Zeta?)

and then the livetronica-techno -looping input.
Yeah, for the jamgrassers, those were dark days, but they did it well enough, and as musicians were always on their game (OK, yeah, the Kang X teeth chatter is in that too)
And they stayed nice guys, or at least the same degree they'd been before.

But I'll tell you something, EOTO is two happy drummers getting into what they do and loving it. (I had a pac man flashback at one point last night: dark room, blinking lights and electronic music...and people eacting magic pills---truly a happy freak scene)
It is good to see Travis so happy, and Jason was just warm and looking like he was glad to be in that space doing those things at that second. (my first chance to meet him, Paul and I painted on stage)

Billy is the Billy I remember from 98, 99 when I see HTH. And i like Jillian, she's a good woman and raising two great daughters. Can't believe the oldest is in high school.
I've seen Kyle's projects but he's so precise, that it's tough to get a read on him.

Right on, that was a good article. The HHS band playing real small venues....when they were down home in California they were playing the Fadodo, which is so small, like 30 people small...so i can't wait to catch Nershie in such an intimate venue...but he did say, "...but it doesn't feel right to keep playing, for right now, with String Cheese."

    "...For Right now..." ???

looks to me like he just wants to do what all musicians is, explore, change, do something new. new tunes. new venues. new band. i love how Nersh is stoked about being able to cruise in a pick up truck...thats beautiful....it takes a few car loads of my van to carry back and forth all the gear for the bands i work for. it must feel very, for lack of a better word, "zen" being able to just have what looks to me a nice condensor mic (corresponding xlr cable) and your guitars.

by the way, Drumminmama, where do all these paintings go? like, what happens to them after the show?
    and
of course Kang has some influence from Big Red, who doesn't these day? i love the guy. but in no way is Kang ripping him off. which i don't think you believe anyway....

having an influence is far diff from "ripping off," and I think you agree with that (write that downm everyone, we agree on something)

I could see a reunion jam or two, probably not advertised- secret surprises, somewhere down the road, but I'd give it at least 4-5 years.

Sol-sol, If i'm lucky they sell night of, some sell later, some are donations to causes. I've given a few away to artists or techs.
I'm hoarding for a spring show for now.
Still looking to turn it into a side gig that at least pays for itself what with tickets, meals en route, canvas, paint, lightbulbs, brushes etc.

Kang doesn't even really sound like Trey to me, although he reminds me of jerry a lot at points.

i'm assuming the "wink" means you're kidding, but just to clarify, to those who don't know what i mean when i say "Big Red"; i'm refering to the Fiery red head of Phish, Mr. Anastasio....

yeah. sorry about the "ripping off" comment. that was a pretty ingnorant statement on my part. I think I was a little pissed off about a few things that day and I was just venting.

Michael is no doubt a bad ass. but however i feel that some Cheese songs, especially Howard, show a very strong similarity to Phish. Too strong a similarity.

But String Cheese Incident is still the greatest in my opinion. I never felt sick at cheese show (except for the two times with Valley of the Jig at Bonnaroo 2004 and the Fox last year). Most Phish shows I have been to have gotten me sick at atleast one point. I dont know maybe I do too many drugs at shows. I never get bored at cheese either. with Panic (after Mikey) I often get bored.
Basically what I'm trying to say is you cant go wrong with Cheese.
