I was just wondering, how many of you believe that the completely sober state is reality? Maybe it's at the end of a 100mg DMT trip? Maybe it's when you smoke that joint? Maybe when you swallow e? I'm anxious to hear what you guys have to say...
I dont know if I understand your question really. Reality encompasses everything that exists. Could you explain your question some mo?
Well, like pure reality. I mean, like viewing everything as it should be, as it was meant to be. The state of mind you are in when you think you have found completely real reality
You'll definitely get different answers for this. It all leads back to the debate of whether reality is what is experienced through the senses or if reality is independent of sense experience and the senses actually distort reality.
ha. there's no such thing as pure, ultimate reality. everyone thinks there is and that's why we're all pissed off and anxious and searching like our lives depend on finding it. everything you can dream up is real; at least, equally AS real as anything else. there's no such thing as objective existence in anything. perception is bouncing off and flowing through every atom in infinity. perception is reality, without it, nothing can exist... there are unpleasant mindstates, and there are pleasant ones... as soon as you believe that life is meaningless and you are a shitbrick, it becomes true. and as soon as you believe everything is perfect and full of love, it is.
yeh this topic is one i feel strongly about. my girlfiend tells me that she believes sobriety is basic reality. however she does not justify herself other than that it is what she believes. i think most people will end up argueing by that. there is no way you can argue that sobriety is the state of percieving reality. it is ridiculous because there is no such thing as a standard state of mind that people stay in all the time. people's brains act differently from morning to lunch to evening, from before meals to after meals, when attentive or when daydreaming, when sad, happy, scared, bored. perhaps after eating some food with msg in it for some people. people can act and percieve teh world ridiculously when angry. yet none of these states involve typically concieved 'drugs' or 'mind altering' substances. if anyone was to set down a universal sober state, people would fluctuate away from it CONSTANTLY. someone could say that sugar and msg counts as mind altering substances in the people that it affects noticably, but at least sugar is necessary for life. so how is reality defined at all? are humans ever percieving reality? or does the very process of perception skew reality for all conscious beings existing -within- reality? i am of the belief that reality is inescapable around us, always affecting us. however it is also impossible to be totally aware of reality, unless you were an infinite being. so under any state of mind, we are simply taking different perceptions of the universal reality that none of us percieve 100%. the question then becomes which state is most conducive of considering not just what is logical in the world, but also what is correct as far as the 'social' reality, ie, the reality that humans construct and work with, the reality of economy and emotive drives and religions and law and values and all of those things. there is no universal set of these either, but they are perhaps more significant in discerning a person's place in the functioning world than what is reality, or actually out there
I don't think there is a way to prove a diffenet reality, or even that there is one. I'm thinking that the only thing that matters is whether you can survive by the way you see the world. Your neurotransmission in you brain is laid out to reflect reality. And when you start throughing chemicals in there that mock them you get a different reality. I think as long as your surviving by the reality that you see then thats all that matters.
