make religion illegal. burn all the churches mosques sinagogues, religion is evil. god does not exist never will exist and hey ive news for all these religious nuts, the soul does not exist. as for fundamentalists and evangelists, get a life, your all assholes. moan over atheism rules and i feel religion is offensive to me, but no governmant policy even human rights protects me. ban religion
Some people need their religious crutch in order to survive this life. If it works for them it's ok by me. Just don't expect or force me to buy into it.
Mmmm, maybe so. But sometimes people feel that they need religion to cling onto. I find it interesting honestly. I'll admit that I have a few relgious texts like some Pagan and Christian stuff. I don't practice any of these religions. I'd like to get my hands on a set of the Buddhist Palms. That'd be an interesting read.
if your against religion, that doesnt give you the right to deem it wrong for everyone else. that my friend, is communism. its not a crutch to me, its a community, where a huge family meets every sunday. and we dont stand around blabbing about how the rest of the world is going to hell. its like every day is thanksgiving, thats the best way i can explain it. see, i am fortunate enough to go to a church that isnt hung up on the little things-the way you dress, the shows you watch, the music you listen to. goths go. punks go. republicans, democrats, preps, nerds, girls, boys, old, young, hippies, metal-heads all go to my church. and we dont judge one another. we go for enlightenment, not for damnation. it really is a wonderful place, but i am aware that not all churches are like this. maybe youve had a bad experience with church, or youve just never been. but you are right, you shouldnt buy into religion. its not about religion-religion is rules and supersticion. as george harrison put it, you dont need a chuch to talk to god or jesus, you could talk to him on the way to the post office, as your heading out the door, even in the shower! its about faith-not religion. ba! im rambling. i hope i dont come off too preachy, i just get excited! peace
But, dude, wouldn't it be evil to burn all those places? They're important to someone and it would make 'em feel bad and all. And the government is evil too, so we don't need any more of their stupid laws. Anyhow, where do ya think the concept of evil came from? HaHaHaHHaHaHHaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No offense though dude, you have to allow what a whole group of other people see as good let be. You shouldn't judge others so harshly. But if a religion isn't harming anyone, or is bringing about good, I don't see a problem with it so long as the people there are there because they want to be, not because they have to be. I'm not going to force my kids to be athiest or christian or whatever. I'm just going to let them choose, if they so desire, on their own. Though in a way, I can see where you're comming from. But as a whole, I see nothing wrong with religion. Other than relgions trying to force it upon other people.
I agree there is no god. "Soul" has so many meanings that I'm not sure about all of them. One thing I am sure of is that I don't trust people who try to run others' lives. Like those who want to prohibit people from talking to non-existant omnipotent beings.
religion does cause harm, thouseands of people are killed each day because of religion. history shows also that hundreds of millions of people have been killed because of religion. God is just an imaginary friend. belief in god in my opinion verges on someone is psychologicaly ill, he is an imaginary friend, full stop. this is the 21st centuary we should embrace human achievement, progress in the fields of bio-tech cloning etc to eliminate all disease and increase human lifespan. we should use our abilities to become a more evolved race, a better race a more peacefull and content race, however in order to achieve this religion and all religious practises should be banned and outlawed. religion kills religion murders, its time to stop.
make religion illegal? how do you intend to do that? what constitutes a religion? doing that would not bring about much more peace in the world, people would just use another reason to make war. and it must be remembered that much bloodshed claimed to be based on religion was really just using religion as an excuse to alterior motives
I agree mystertramp, most of the wars that have been fought in religions name, were basically money grabs, that the powerful manipulated the poor man to fighting by saying they were doing it for god.
religion doesn't kill people, people kill people. just like guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people. do these jeans make me look fat? no, fat makes you look fat. responsibility has never been a favourite word of ours. and as for the science/technology argument that you put forward, i agree- science is wonderful, it is amazing what we are able to do nowadays. but science is only good as far as the grave- once you're dead, it can do nothing for you. religious people are concerned with what happens after death, they find answers that atheists don't believe are there. keep your beliefs and we'll keep ours, but let none of us force our beliefs on everybody else. who is anybody to decide on the outcome of another's life? let's stay away from communism, make use of free will, and take responsibility for our own lives. maybe then people will stop playing the blame game.
people who think religion is a good reason to kill or make yourself holier than thou, are having the wrong understanding of religion. Any religion that encourages killing, is not of god anyhow. There are alot of fake religious people out there. Hey if there was a way to make them go away, the world might get better, but the best ya can do without cramming your beliefs down someone elses throat (which is what some religion is) is to shunn 'em.
People that espouse religions also have to be held accountable, and they need to stop and justify their support for actions that don't necessary advocate for their beliefs, but are in essence using their zeal for their own outcomes. Christians need to stop and think before they support wars, did Jesus ever justify war to meet a goal? He raged against the money changers in the temple, but I don't think he performed or promoted wholescale acts of violence.
Yeah, that is very true. People do die everyday over religion. That's the kinda stuff I'm talking about, if people get an idea in their head that they should kill another person because they don't believe the same thing as them, then it's not good at all.
It doesn't necessarily follow that because some people love to follow the sheep mentality that all religion is bad. It just reinforces the need to educate all people to think for themselves, and hold themselves responsible for their actions. Religion may pretend to absolve you from sin, but each of us dies alone and must face our own accounting.
Yes! Think for yourselves! Make rational discisions! I love it! You have a wonderful point. In our modern times, you shouldn't neccissarily look solely at a relgion to help you make descisions. You should decide for youself if you support the war or not. Kudos to you gardener! You've made a wonderful point!
And what about the other things that people have done because of their faith. Like the Quakers creating the Underground Railroad. The anti-war movement (pick a war) Buddist priests imolating themselves to protest S.Vietnamese government actions. The churches that supported MLK. The Baptists (and others) insisting that the US not have a state religion. The effects of religion are not all bad. "What god wants" has motivated people in all kinds of directions. Sometimes in opposite directions. Segregation is a good example, one side explained (with biblical quotes) that god wanted the races seperate. The other sides explained (with biblical quotes) that god wanted all men to be brothers. (They also assured us that the negros didn't want to date white women.) To the manipulators, religion is just one of their tools. If it weren't avaliable to them, they would just use a different hook. It doesn't matter if they are manipulating for good or evil, religion is one of their tools. The OP can be summerized as "Religion is false. It should be illegal to disagree with me on this."
MikeE that's why we should all remain open to all cultures and religions. There's good in everyone if they don't try to react with a mass mental attitude. I hate that currently all muslims are being painted with the fanatic paint brush...it's just not true or just.
