turned veggie a couple of weeks ago, and went to maccy d's for the first time since tonight. they had one veggie option and they didnt even have that ready so they gave some lettuce n cheese in a bun. is this a common experience or was i just unlucky? however my veggie boxes scratchcard was the only one to win a prize so maybe someone somewhere was saying summat
Most fast food places are un-accomodating. The only place I know of that has anything Vegetarian is Burger King, which sells a Morning Star Farms veggie burger. I try to avoid fast food altogether, but when options run out I can usually find a Burger King somewhere and grab one of those.
I went through the same thing at the McDonalds here (southern England), so they're probably universally crap. Burger King does a decent vegburger, but I tend to avoid huge chains anyway. That said if you're prepared to search and read menus carefully, then you can usually find something suitable and often quite good. (my local mall has just opened a stand that does takeout of Greek food; olives, halloumi, falafel. OMG so much awesomeness).
Indian takeaway is probably a better bet. THey will "get " vegetarian, even if they personally aren't.
I remember the last time I was at mcdonalds. I was with a girl who had worked there earlier that night and she taught me how to order a good sandwich with no meat. I ended up getting a black forest ham and swiss with no ham, and i asked for mustard instead of mayo. i thought it was a decent sandwich. its all a matter of asking them. its like, go there and order a big mac without the meat and just eat the sandwich.
Most any restuarant will try to accomadate you. The thing I've ordered most recently is a BLT minus the bacon with added swiss cheese. I tried to order a grilled cheese sandwich one night. They said they couldn't makeit forme becauseitwas onthe kids menu and I was not a kid. I finally said "Look I want a grilled cheese sandwich, charge me an adult price for it." When I got the bill they had charged me for the most expensive burger on their menu. That was at Bennigan's. Guess I won't be eatingthere again. Kathi
Burger King is good for burger cravings. Taco Bell has a 7-layer burrito that's to die for. Wendy's has a taco salad, and if you request the chili on the side (and give it to a friend) that's veggie. And I've had good luck at several local Mexican & "Asian" (more like Asian-American really) places. But my absolute favorite is Chipotle! love, mom
I guess it's probably been five or six years since I ate fast food... don't miss it. No, I'm wrong, I ate at Subway a couple times last winter. Sorry 'bout that.
Grocery stores are a vegetarian’s fast food restaurant. Just grab some fruits and veggies and you are good to go. Fast food places are crap anyway. Subway is atleast accommodating in that they have a veggie sub which is actually cheaper than the others. Burger King does have the veggie burger, but it is not vegan. Taco Bell is easy to make vegetarian or vegan. Just ask them to leave off anything you don’t want and replace the meat with beans.
This is just one of many reasons I avoid fast food like the plague. Seriously, you won't miss fast food once you give it up. Learn to cook or grab something quick from grocery stores if you're traveling. Fast food = garbage, even if it is veg.
Exactly.. Even a vegetarian burger at some fast food shit place still has the bun which is loaded with sugar and fat that you don't need... Plus a bean burrito at Taco Bell has nearly 300 calories which is a lot for a bean burrito. I was thinking they probably put lard in their beans anyway so it might not even be vegetarian. So screw the fast food industry! Don't support it, because if you're a vegetarian for animal rights anyway, who do you think has meat from the factory farms? Whatever the reason you're a vegetarian, fast food is not food.
^^ I was going to post the same. the fat is from cheese and some oil in reconstitution, according to the owner of a local TB store.
I would think local sandwich shops would be the best route. Whenever I don't have time to cook or don't feel like it I go to a local restaurant that has ubelievable subs all around but once I turned vegetarian I found out their cheese sub was just as good. I can't stand not eating breakfast and was out of town last weekend so I had to get an egg mcmuffin minus the meat; nothing special.
