I get a lot of comments like "I always wanted to get dreads but never have." Most people think they're pretty cool. I've never got any negative comments but most people don't say anything.

    Peace and love

most of the time people ask me if i have to shave my head if i don't want dreads anymore. i always answer, "well yes, but i can only imagine."

I've had strangers ask "what the fuck is on your head" and even had a guy walk up behind me in a 7-E and say, "tell 'em you stuck your finger in a lightsocket." I get lots of negative comments from strangers and my entire family as well, but I love my hair so everyone else can bite me.

what really surprises me though is how many people go out of their way to involve themselves in things that are clearly not their business.

On Halloween, I had to go out to the store and this little kid walked up to me with real big eyes looking all amazed and said "Wow! You did a great job on your hair, it almost looks real!"

    :D lmao

my child never gets negative comments except from my husband's mother and his grandmother. The only thing we ever hear is "wow! Her hair is so cool!" or things like that. There's this one other dread-head (adult) in town who she goes out of her way to talk to whenever we visit the store where he works. People who used to not much like her hair are now making comments about how much her dreads are coming along and how much better it looks now that it's been almost a year since we started them. I'd post a pic, but photobucket is down right now for whatever reason.

I never got any negative comments. Everyone I know just said "Wow, your hair looks really nice and you look good with dreads" :)
Even some of my elder relatives think it looks nice.

yeh, it seems the few people who have issues with Jenny's hair are the ones who don't recognize or understand that it's an expression of her individuality, or maybe they do recognize it but think everyone should conform to what they think all people should do. You know, the same people who think everyone should want to be just like them.

    lets see: other than

    - "you should maintain them"
    - "you should used egg yolk, i hear that works"

ive only recieved nice comments, most of the time i feel people refrain from saying things to me anyway, so maybe thats way i havent heard "your hair looks like shit" - because it truely does ;)

Hmmm... Let's see at school, I get alot of "Why don't your wash your hair?!?!?!" from all of the ignorant kids, I simply reply "I do." And that usually follows with "Nu 'uh... you can't wash your hair with dreadlocks", and after that I just walk away. Other kids ask me if I hide my weed in my hair...lol that one always makes me laugh. I'm one of 2 girls with dreads at my high school, so I get alot of stares too...

My locks are too new to have any comments (ie shitty looking hair, not really locks yet) But I have always, for as long as I can remember looked at people with locks in awe, yet I guess too afraid to intrude on their personal space and tell them how much I loved them. So sometimes when people look at you twice or follow you around the store/library etc .. no i'm not a stalker I promise.. It's only because they are interested and lack the courage to approach you.

Well, I originally backcombed my dreads but they (mostly) all fell out so I'm letting them be and someone who seen my backcombed dreads asked if my dreads were still intact... I told her yeah I was doing them natural now and she told me that it was cool and good I had the patience. I wasn't sure if all that was a compliment, or not.
